Predators' Craig Smith Puts Shot on Open Net, Somehow Saves Own Shot
With an open shot at the net in the final minute of overtime, it appeared as though the Nashville Predators' Craig Smith was going to give his team a victory over the Montreal Canadiens.
But not even he could have foreseen what was going to happen when he took the shot.
Smith received a nice pass in front of the net from a teammate and took a one-timer before Montreal goalie Mike Condon had a chance to slide over to protect the net. Easy goal, right? Wrong.

The Predators center didn't get a great touch on the puck, and after he redirected it toward the net, his stick somehow knocked the shot away before it ever crossed the line—so the game continued. Just a brutal way for a potential game-winner to be denied.
Fortunately for Smith, he got another chance to win the game moments later in the shootout:
Nashville took the game, 2-1.
