Steve Kerr Comments on Recovery From Back Surgery, NBA 3-Point Contest, More
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr joined KNBR 680's Murph & Mac radio show in San Francisco on Wednesday morning and spoke about his return to the bench, the NBA Three-Point Contest and other matters.
Kerr, who missed the first 43 games of the regular season due to complications from offseason back surgery, said of his recovery, "I feel good. The rest was great," per the Bay Area News Group's Diamond Leung.
As for the aforementioned All-Star Weekend shootout between Warriors Splash Brothers Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, Kerr's wishes about the thrilling exhibition ultimately came true.
"Don't tell Steph, but I was rooting for Klay-Steph, 1-2. I want them to trade off every year," he said, per KNBR host Brian Murphy.
So far, that trend is alive, as Curry won the Three-Point Contest last year and Thompson got the best of him this year in a magnificent duel.
For all the deserved attention Golden State's backcourt garners, dynamic forward Draymond Green has also been instrumental to the squad's 48-4 record to date, not to mention its championship run.
Kerr couldn't resist ribbing Green, saying, per Leung, "His fashion sense hasn't caught up with his game at this point."
No matter what Green wears, his coach has to love having him on the court. The 25-year-old is averaging 14.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks this season. Talk about stuffing the stat sheet.
As part of a 1995-96 Chicago Bulls team that posted the best record in modern NBA history at 72-10, Kerr now oversees a Warriors club that may eclipse the mark.
With the likes of the reigning league MVP in Curry, another stupendous guard in Thompson and one of the more unique stars in the game in Green, Golden State is a prohibitive favorite to repeat as champions. The Warriors also boast underrated depth, but Kerr has made the right calls and found a perfect mix of lineups to deploy during his tenure to make Golden State a nearly unstoppable juggernaut.
Since Kerr's return to the sidelines, he's guided the Warriors to nine consecutive wins. They haven't lost at home all season and will continue their march toward history on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday
