Hawks, 76ers Could Reopen Negotiations During Offseason

Wednesday, Feb. 24

Keith Pompey of Philly.com reported that "a source said he expects the Sixers and Hawks to revisit trade talks for him [Schroder] during the NBA draft on June 23."

Pompey also explained the offer made ahead of the trade deadline, stating, "The team offered a package that included shooting guard Nik Stauskas, point guard Ish Smith, and a 2016 first-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks for point guard Dennis Schroder, according to several league sources."

On Feb. 10, Pompey reported, citing a source, that the 76ers were not expected to make a serious push to acquire Schroder ahead of the deadline.

The Sixers own the league's most impressive stockpile of draft picks and could have as many as four first-rounders at their disposal this summer if certain protections shake out in their favor.

Own 2016 1st-Round PickNone
L.A. Lakers 2016 1st-Round PickTop-3 protected in 2016 & 2017; unprotected in 2018
Miami Heat 2016 1st-Round PickTop-10 protected in 2016; unprotected in 2017
OKC Thunder 2016 1st-Round PickTop-15 protected in 2016 & 2017

The 76ers' rebuild has certainly been slow to this point, but it's going to have to ramp up eventually. And with chairman of basketball operations Jerry Colangelo now seated shotgun beside general manager Sam Hinkie in the team's front office, the pressure's on for Philadelphia to start building a winning foundation.

Schroder Reportedly Staying As Hawks Keep Core

Thursday, Feb. 18

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported that Atlanta is "expressing its intentions to rivals that [the] Hawks plan [is] to keep [the] team intact at deadline, holding on to [Al] Horford and key guards."

Prior to the deadline, rumors had swirled regarding the Hawks' status as potential sellers.

According to ESPN.com's Kevin Arnovitz and Brian Windhorst, the Hawks have been "engaged in serious internal discussions ahead of the deadline about the future direction of their team and their core players," but the 22-year-old Schroder wasn't ever likely to be traded.

Windhorst and Arnovitz reported on Feb. 9 that Schroder's emergence had made Jeff Teague expendable and noted that "the coaching staff admires the 22-year-old's competitive streak, a quality the mellower Teague exhibits more sparingly."
