Oklahoma vs. Kansas State: Score, Highlights, Reaction from 2016 Regular Season

The No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners became the latest in a long line of Top Five men's college basketball teams to falter on the road, falling Saturday to the unranked Kansas State Wildcats, 80-69, at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kansas.

Wesley Iwundu led the way for the Wildcats with 22 points and seven assists, and freshman Dean Wade chipped in with a career-high 17 points.

Leaving the junior Iwundu open was a mistake, considering he made seven of 11 shots from the field, including his fourth three-pointer of the season, as shown by Kansas State:

Despite falling behind 9-0, Kansas State led for most of the game and never trailed after an Iwundu jumper made it 48-47 with 13 minutes, one second remaining. Oklahoma's 32 points tied for the team's lowest first-half output of the season, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The Sooners got to within striking distance, trailing by five with less than two minutes remaining. However, this Wade jumper at the 1:15 mark iced the game, as illustrated by the Wildcats:

Kansas State won with strong offense, but its defense against the nation's second-leading scorer was a big reason for the victory. Oklahoma's Buddy Hield, who was averaging 25.8 points per game coming in, scored 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting, missing five of his eight three-point attempts.

Kellis Robinett of the Wichita Eagle noted the solid defense by the Wildcats:

However, Dante Buford's dunk was one of the best highlights of the night, per OU Hoops:

But Kansas State came away with the win. The Wildcats shot a scorching 52.9 percent from the floor and were better from three-point range (46.2 percent) than Oklahoma was from the floor (43.1).

It's been a tough season for the Wildcats, who are just 3-7 in Big 12 play, but they will always remember this one, as will their fans.

Kansas State security took measures to prevent a court storm, so the players went to the crowd to celebrate, per SportsCenter:

Oklahoma has more problems to worry about than losing its No. 1 ranking. The loss dropped the Sooners into a tie for second place in the Big 12 with the Kansas Jayhawks and Texas Longhorns, a half-game behind the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Postgame Reaction

Only because no big game is complete with a dab from the winning coach, here’s Kansas State's Bruce Weber's attempt, per Trenton Miller of Campus Rush:

Other teams in the Big 12 were celebrating the top squad's loss, possibly even Bill Self, the Kansas Jayhawks' head coach, as ESPN college basketball analyst Fran Fraschilla noted:

Self’s No. 7 Jayhawks have won the league title the past 11 years, but it looked as if the Sooners might take it this season.

The Wildcats don’t have much of a shot to win the conference, but their defensive effort was one of the more impressive this season, per ESPN Stats & Info:

Iwundu was a big reason for that as he was tasked with trying to slow down Hield. Weber was impressed with his overall performance, per Robinett:

The team's leading scorer on the night understood the significance of the victory, per Robinett:

Although this was a great win, it’s not going to help or hurt either team that much. The road has been a brutal place for pretty much every school this year. Kansas State is great at home when the crowd is in it, but it won’t make much noise on the road and is still most likely NIT-bound.

Oklahoma, on the other hand, still has a great shot at winning the conference, considering its impending Feb. 13 matchup with Kansas is at home and could go a long way in determining the Big 12 champion.
