Twitter Reacts as Liverpool Beat Norwich City 5-4 in Premier League Thriller
Norwich City and Liverpool provided a treat for Premier League fans on Saturday as they traded nine goals in a dramatic and somewhat bonkers 5-4 win for the Reds at Carrow Road.
Early on, a goal-fest looked a distant dream for Liverpool fans, with Daniel Sturridge ruled out through injury (again) and a messy start:
"Sturridge starts in #LFC’s last 90 games Yes ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅ No ❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎❎

"Very uninspiring stuff in midfield from a largely uninspiring midfield. there’s probably a correlation there somewhere.

But they took the lead against the run of play—Roberto Firmino with a scuffed shot that somehow found it's way in via the post:
"#ncfc 0-1 #lfc (#Firmino) Like this, but a little less elegant. https://t.co/IdQfpyFwGm

"Lovely little bit of spin on the ball sends that in instead of back out off the post

"Defo on purpose…

"Seems to me that Firmino is an Ozil who can score goals... pic.twitter.com/ylKZbw5NAk

Liverpool had a great chance to double their lead soon after, but James Milner was unable to get a shot away:
"James Milner through on goal… https://t.co/Lu9okzkscz

And Norwich immediately made them pay, Dieumerci Mbokani equalising with a sublime backheel finish following a corner:
"Mbokani the tricky trickster!
— Paddy Power (@paddypower) January 23, 2016"
"1-1 #NORLIV - Mbokani with the equaliser. Liverpool concede from a corner... again. pic.twitter.com/pVu6gUBcwu

"How many goals have Liverpool conceded off set pieces this season, a thousand? I think it is now one thousand.

Norwich then took the lead, as Steven Naismith fired through Simon Mignolet on his Canaries debut:

— Bleacher Report UK (@br_uk) January 23, 2016"
"Brendan Rodgers is still available
— Richard Beech (@BeechardRich) January 23, 2016"
"Naismith. obvs. hell of a finish to be fair. When did Mignolet last save a shot?
— Karl Matchett (@karlmatchett) January 23, 2016"
It's fair to say fans weren't impressed with Mignolet's performance so far:
"At least Mignolet has another five years to save one at some point
— Karl Matchett (@karlmatchett) January 23, 2016"
"Five more years!!! #Mignolet
— David Easson (@DavidEasson) January 23, 2016"
"Simon Mignolet to be offered a new 10 year contract. #LFC
— indykaila News (@indykaila) January 23, 2016"
"Criticism of Mignolet often met with "Yeah, but he's a good shot-stopper." But for the past 18 months, he seems to have stopped very little
— Oliver Kay (@OliverKayTimes) January 23, 2016"
"Simon Mignolet hasn't saved a single shot in 206 minutes of Premier League action, conceding 4 goals in that time. pic.twitter.com/3d9EhFOuot
— Squawka Football (@Squawka) January 23, 2016"
It was a frantic first-half performance from Jurgen Klopp's side:
"#LFC are playing with five defensive players, three central midfielders, a No. 10 and a winger. Completely imbalanced
— amar singh (@amarjourno) January 23, 2016"
Not long into the second half, Alberto Moreno conceded a messy penalty, with Wes Hoolahan converting to make it 3-1 to Norwich:
"Disastrous defending by Moreno. Gets away with a stupid challenge, so celebrates with another one.
— Tom Williams (@tomwfootball) January 23, 2016"
"Moronic from Moreno

"That Moreno challenge might be the stupidest thing I've ever seen. And I've watched three entire Adam Sandler films.
— Wile E Kouyaté (@tomvictor) January 23, 2016"
"Klopp like Robin Hood in his first season in the Premier League, stealing points from the rich and giving them to the poor.
— Rafael Hernández (@RafaelH117) January 23, 2016"
Liverpool immediately hit back through Jordan Henderson:
"Pretty sure that’s the first good thing Henderson has done today actually. Entire midfield abysmal
— Karl Matchett (@karlmatchett) January 23, 2016"
"This #NORLIV game is pretty decent entertainment.
— Ryan Bailey (@RyanJayBailey) January 23, 2016"
"The quality of defending in this game is sensational
— Nooruddean (@BeardedGenius) January 23, 2016"
And soon after, they were level again, with Firmino scoring his second of the game after good work from Adam Lallana:
"#NCFC 3-3 #LFC (#Firmino x2) pic.twitter.com/9C8difWp5p
— Bleacher Report UK (@br_uk) January 23, 2016"
"Adam Lallana just passed first time, didn't dwell on the ball, and made an assist. What is this?!
— John M O'Sullivan (@NotoriousJOS) January 23, 2016"
"Scenes as Lallana actually is useful!
— RobinLFC (@Robish13) January 23, 2016"
"LALLANA END PRODUCT KLAXON
— Nathan | LFC (@grubbavitch) January 23, 2016"
"August to Xmas. Firmino was finding his Premier League feet. Already written off by some as waste of money. Now showing his Bundesliga form.
— Alex Stone (@AlexStone7) January 23, 2016"
"A goal has been scored with ALL the shots on target during Norwich v Liverpool so far! 6 shots, 6 goals!
— The Football Café (@thefootballcafe) January 23, 2016"
And the Reds appeared to have completed the turnaround when Milner seized on a suicidal back-pass to make it 4-3 to the away side:

— Bleacher Report UK (@br_uk) January 23, 2016"
"Get innnn

"😍😍😍😍😍😍
— Danny Ings (@IngsDanny) January 23, 2016"
"Horrendous game of defensive mistakes compounded by the ultimate in idiocy - the no-look back-pass.
— Karl Matchett (@karlmatchett) January 23, 2016"
It wasn't the finest 90 minutes for the art of defending:
"Both teams have parked the bus, but like, way out by the touchline. and then smashed it into bits and thrown them around the pitch.
— Karl Matchett (@karlmatchett) January 23, 2016"
But the drama wasn't over yet...Sebastien Bassong appeared to have snatched Norwich a point with a fine strike in injury time, only for Liverpool to go up the other end and score again through Lallana:
"Scenes. Scenes. Scenes. Scenes. Scenes. Scenes.
— BuzzFeed Football (@BuzzFeedUKFB) January 23, 2016"
"#NCFC 4-4 #LFC (#Bassong, stoppage time) #NCFC 4-5 #LFC (#Lallana, straight after) pic.twitter.com/pnkLZxmzbt

"This. Game. Is. Bananas.
— Ryan Bailey (@RyanJayBailey) January 23, 2016"
"FT Norwich 4 Liverpool 5 Match report: Ridiculous.
— Karl Matchett (@karlmatchett) January 23, 2016"
"#NORLIV: the game that defending forgot.
— Ryan Bailey (@RyanJayBailey) January 23, 2016"
What. A. Game.
