Hernandez is currently on loan at Bayer Leverkusen from Manchester United and has enjoyed a remarkable beginning to his career in the Bundesliga, scoring 11 goals in 14 league appearances; the 27-year-old has also bagged five goals in six Champions League matches for the German side.
The accolade won by Hernandez was one of a number distributed on the night. Here are the winners in full, per the CONCACAF Twitter account:
| Men's Player of the Year | Javier Hernandez |
| Women's Player of the Year | Carli Lloyd |
| Men's Goalkeeper of the Year | Tim Howard |
| Women's Goalkeeper of the Year | Hope Solo |
| Men's Coach of the Year | TBC |
| Women's Coach of the Year | Jillian Ellis |
Here’s a look at some of his standout moments since moving to the BayArena on a temporary basis:
The forward has been a prolific goalscorer up front for manager Roger Schmidt’s effervescent side, showing the Red Devils, who have struggled for goals this term, what they’ve been missing. As noted by Squawka Football, the more he’s become acquainted to German football, the sharper Hernandez seems to have gotten in front of goal:
Although Chicharito did score some key goals for Los Blancos while on loan with Real Madrid during the 2014-15 term, including the winner in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Atletico Madrid, he was a peripheral figure for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
On the international stage, Hernandez had a disappointing year. He missed Mexico’s glorious Gold Cup campaign after suffering a fractured collarbone during a friendly prior to the tournament, per Andrea Canales of ESPN FC.
