Georgia Bulldogs' 2016 National Signing Day Wish List

Brian JonesJan 21, 2016

National signing day is two weeks away, and the Georgia Bulldogs are working overtime to get the best recruits in the state, region and country.

Head coach Kirby Smart said that recruiting is all about building relationships, according to Jake Rowe of 247Sports. Smart is using that approach this year, and fans are hoping that it will lead the Bulldogs to a championship run like the current national champions, the Alabama Crimson Tide.

But which recruits are on Smart’s radar? Is he trying to get the top recruit in the country? Is there a recruit who is not getting a lot of attention but is being pursued by the Bulldogs because they see something in him?

Here’s the Bulldogs’ 2016 national signing day wish list.

Derrick Brown

Derrick Brown is one of the defensive players who have been high on the Bulldogs' radar for a while. He will make his official visit to Athens this weekend, according to Kipp Adams of 247Sports.

Brown is listed as 247Sports’ No. 1 recruit in the state of Georgia and the ninth-best recruit in the country. During his senior year at Lanier High School, he tallied 106 tackles, 42 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He was named the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Player of the Year.

Adams also reported that defensive coordinator Mel Tucker and defensive line coach Tracy Rocker made an in-home visit with Brown on Monday. It looks like they believe he can be an impact player for the Bulldogs if he decides to join the program.

Demetris Robertson

2 of 4

The Bulldogs need help at receiver, and Demetris Robertson might be the guy who can make an impact.

Listed as the No. 1 receiver in the country by 247Sports, Robertson has the explosion and athleticism to be a deep threat and a good complement to Terry Godwin. Georgia is leading the 247Sports' crystal ball predictions, but Notre Dame is not far behind.

Adams of 247Sports reported that Robertson won’t make his decision on national signing day. Adams and other sources were told that Robertson and his family are waiting on SAT scores.

Robertson will have an in-home visit with UGA Thursday and will then visit Alabama over the weekend.

Nigel Warrior

Another recruit Tucker spent time with is Nigel Warrior, who is from the Atlanta area like Brown.

Warrior, a 247Sports 4-start recruit, got a visit from Tucker on Tuesday. He is the No. 5 recruit in Georgia and No. 4 safety in the country.

It’s not going to be easy to get Warrior because Tennessee and Alabama are after him as well. This weekend, Warrior has an official visit to Auburn and then an official visit to Tennessee the final weekend. The Bulldogs are making the final push to get Warriors' final official visit, which would happen before national signing day.

Jawaan Taylor

4 of 4

The Bulldogs have a new offensive line coach in Sam Pittman, and he is making a push to get some of the best offensive line recruits in the country, even if they are already committed.

A perfect example of that is Jawaan Taylor, who is already committed to Florida. According to Adams, the Bulldogs offered Taylor a scholarship Wednesday.

"It felt great getting an offer from such a big SEC program such as Georgia," Taylor said. "I plan to talk it over with my family and coaches and see about taking an official visit."

Taylor is a 247Sports' 3-star recruit from Cocoa, Florida, and is listed at 6’5" and 330 pounds. The Bulldogs need size at offensive line, and Taylor certainly has that.

It will be tough to steal Taylor away from Florida, especially with him committing to the Gators in November, but anything is possible once national signing day arrives.
