Premier League Results: 2016 EPL Week 22 Scores, Table, Revised Odds

Gianni VerschuerenJan 17, 2016

The 2015-16 Premier League title race remains as tight as ever following Week 22, as Arsenal's scoreless draw against Stoke City on Sunday means the top three teams in the standings all sit within one point of each other.

The Gunners and Leicester City lead the table, but Manchester City are just one point back and still sport the best odds of winning the title, per Oddschecker.com.

City beat Crystal Palace 4-0 on Saturday to maintain a four-point lead over Tottenham Hotspur, and with the London clash between Arsenal and Chelsea on the horizon—they're scheduled to play on Jan. 24—the Citizens have a golden opportunity to jump out in front in Week 23.

Review

Arsenal's poor form at the Britannia Stadium continued on Sunday, as the Gunners yet again failed to beat Stoke City on their home turf. The Potters had the better chances throughout the match, with Petr Cech saving the visitors in the final minutes with several key saves.

The absence of Mesut Ozil was key in this match, once again underlining just how important the Germany international is to the side. Arsenal struggled for creativity in the attacking third and had to rely on individual brilliance to create moments of danger―which didn't happen all that often.

Manager Arsene Wenger knows how vital Ozil can be, via the Premier League's official Twitter account:

The Gunners' reliance on Ozil is understandable but worrying as the north Londoners enter the second half of the season. Should the former Real Madrid star suffer a serious injury that would sideline him for a significant amount of time, it's hard to see how the squad would cope with his absence.

The return of Alexis Sanchez will help, but the Chilean is a far more effective player when he has a star midfielder like Ozil creating chances for him. Aaron Ramsey has shown his ability to create in the past, but he found little space at the Britannia on Sunday.

Creative depth may be the biggest difference between Arsenal and City, and the main reason why the latter continue to sport the best title odds. Between Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, the Citizens boast two star playmakers, to go with Sergio Aguero, one of the world's best at creating goalscoring chances for himself.

Arsenal's lack of creativity on Sunday was an issue, but it's important to note the result wasn't all that bad. As shared by Squawka Football, some of the Premier League's best sides have struggled to score at the Britannia, including City:

The title race is too close to call at this point, and while City have experience on their side, having won two Premier League titles recently, Arsenal look like worthy adversaries.

Manchester United scored a big result in the race for a Champions League ticket, beating rivals Liverpool 1-0. Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the match, 12 minutes before the final whistle, to steal the three points—Liverpool had been the better side for most of the match.

Injuries have taken their toll on Liverpool, who once again played with Roberto Firmino as the main striker. The Reds couldn't get anything going in front of goal, wasting a number of promising chances.

As shared by United's official Twitter account, Paddy Crerand thought the result could play a big role down the line:

United have to use the momentum from this win to build a run of results in the coming weeks and keep the pressure on Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have looked mighty impressive at times this season, but they are prone to the occasional lapse and only lead the Red Devils by two points.

With Leicester City looking vulnerable in the new year, both Tottenham and United have to like their chances of finishing in the top four, although the oddsmakers still seem to like the Foxes' chances.
