Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend

Joe GallagherJan 17, 2016

Juventus kept their strong run of form going, Manchester United gained bragging rights against Liverpool and Real Madrid cruised to another victory under Zinedine Zidane in an eventful weekend for world football.

Goals from each three of these matches are joined in our weekly golazo rankings by impressive, inventive and audacious efforts from England, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Italy.

Take a look through the rankings and be sure to leave a comment about your favourite strike from the weekend in the forum below!

Special Mention: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) vs. Liverpool

It might not have been the prettiest of the weekend, but Wayne Rooney's winner at Anfield was a significant one for a number of reasons.

As well as settling one of the fiercest rivalries in English football, the Englishman's 79th-minute goal made him the outright record scorer for one Premier League club.

Rooney's 176 goals for Manchester United eclipses that of Thierry Henry, who scored 175 in his years at Arsenal.

10: Kevin Mirallas (Everton) vs. Chelsea

2 of 11

It was probably the game of the weekend, Chelsea's controversial, last-gasp equaliser at Stamford Bridge denying Everton what would have been a famous victory.

Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa had earlier hauled the Blues back into the contest after a John Terry own goal, and this wonderful finish by Kevin Mirallas had pushed the Toffees out to a 2-0 lead in the second half.

Leighton Baines' cross found its way to the Belgian, whose first touch brilliantly set him clear of John Obi Mikel, and he fired the ball past Thibaut Courtois with his second touch.

9: Alex Sandro (Juventus) vs. Udinese

3 of 11

Juventus were in the mood on Sunday, as they kept their winning run in Serie A going with a 4-0 win at Udinese.

The visitors were three goals and a man up midway through the first half, but Alex Sandro scored the pick of the bunch to round out the scoring on 42 minutes.

The Brazilian cut inside his defender and curled an excellent right-footed shot into the far corner to complete the rout of 13th-placed Udinese.

8: Ricky Holmes (Northampton) vs. Dagenham and Redbridge

4 of 11

It's far from a glamour fixture but Northampton's 2-1 win over Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday was important for both sides, with the victors keeping pace with League Two leaders Plymouth and Dagenham consigned to the relegation places.

The Cobblers fell behind after an hour thanks to Christian Doidge's goal, but they completed their comeback with this brilliant volley from Ricky Holmes after 79 minutes.

7: Radja Nainggolan (Roma) vs. Hellas Verona

5 of 11

You'd do well to see a better assist than this from Daniele De Rossi this weekend.

The midfielder teed up Radja Nainggolan with this beautiful backheel to put the home side in front against Hellas Verona in the first half; though, the two sides shared the points thanks to Giampaolo Pazzini's second-half equaliser.

The draw is of no real use to either side, though, with Verona staying at the foot of the table while Roma stay fifth, some nine points from the league leaders.

6: Arturo Vidal (Bayern Munich) vs. Karlsruhe

6 of 11

It might have been a friendly, it might have mattered little, but Arturo Vidal pulled one from the top shelf on Saturday afternoon as Bayern Munich fell to second-tier side Karlsruhe SC.

The Chilean levelled things up midway through the first half with a superb curling right-footed effort from the edge of the penalty area.

Dimitrij Nazarov scored late on to ensure Pep Guardiola's side go into the second half of the Bundesliga campaign with no complacency.

5: Scott Arfield (Burnley) vs. Brentford

7 of 11

Promotion-chasing Burnley kept themselves in the hunt for an automatic ticket to the top flight with a 3-1 win over Brentford in London on Friday night.

The visitors raced to a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to George Boyd and Joey Barton, after Scott Arfield had fired them in front after 12 minutes with a brilliant goal.

After some clever movement and one-touch passing, Arfield slammed home a rocket with his right foot from the edge of the area.

4: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) vs. Sporting Gijon

8 of 11

For the first half at least, Real Madrid were making it look easy against Sporting Gijon on Sunday afternoon.

They were 3-0 up within 12 minutes thanks to Karim Benzema, who made his 300th appearance for Los Blancos, adjusting brilliantly to steer home Gareth Bale's cross.

Both Benzema and Bale went off due to injury, but Zinedine Zidane's side kept pressure on the league leaders with a 5-1 victory (scoring all five in the first period).

3: Hugo Firmino (Oriental Lisboa) vs. Vitoria Guimaraes

9 of 11

All the way to the Portuguese second division we go for Oriental Lisboa's match against Vitoria Guimaraes B on Sunday.

Hugo Firmino steadied himself to fire home a brilliant right-footed volley to put Oriental in front in the first half, before Denis Duarte equalised in the second spell.

It was going to take something quite special to beat this one...

2: Alessandro Marotta (Benevento) vs. Messina

10 of 11

Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be proud of this one.

We go all the way into Italy's lower leagues for an inventive finish by Benevento's Alessandro Marotta in a 5-0 win against Messina on Saturday (what do you mean you missed it?).

With the cross in from the right just behind him, Marotta adjusts brilliantly to scorpion-kick the ball into the net, and he looks almost surprised by the effort's success.

We apologise for the choice of music, though.

1: Alvaro Negredo (Valencia) vs. Rayo Vallecano

11 of 11

The pressure might be building against Valencia boss Gary Neville, but the Englishman's job will only get easier if Alvaro Negredo keeps on scoring like this.

They looked in more immediate danger of going 2-0 down than equalising when the Spaniard turned from near the centre circle before firing over Rayo Vallecano's goalkeeper and into the net.

Unfortunately, Negredo's heroics couldn't inspire Valencia to a win, but his vision and audacity earns him top spot in our weekly list.
