Chip Kelly Fired by Eagles: Twitter Reacts to Head Coach's Release

The Philadelphia Eagles stunned the NFL world Tuesday evening when they announced the firing of head coach Chip Kelly prior to the team's Week 17 meeting with the New York Giants. 

"We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward," Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said in the team's official release.

The Eagles also announced Ed Marynowitz—whom Kelly appointed to serve as vice president of player personnel—was fired. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur will serve as the team's interim head coach for the final game of the season.

Kelly was previously renowned as an offensive mastermind and schematic trendsetter, but the Eagles' 16th-ranked scoring attack indicated otherwise. Combine tactical woes with unequivocal flubs in the personnel department—from the LeSean McCoy trade to DeSean Jackson's release and signing DeMarco Murray—and the 52-year-old coach seemingly forced the organization's hand.
