Copa Del Rey 2015: Results, Reaction from Tuesday's Round of 32 Leg 2 Matches

Gianni VerschuerenDec 15, 2015

There were no surprises during Tuesday's 2015-16 Copa Del Rey action, as the likes of Sevilla and Real Betis easily advanced to the next round at the cost of Logrones and Sporting Gijon, respectively.

Sevilla cruised to a 2-0 win over Logrones, while Betis came away with a 3-3 draw, enough to advance after beating Sporting in the first leg.

New Espanyol manager Constantin Galca started his tenure with a win over Levante, and Deportivo La Coruna survived a scare against Llagostera.

Here's a look at Tuesday's results:

Sevilla2-0 (5-0)Logrones

Recap

Ciro Immobile and Jose Antonio Reyes both scored in the first half to give Sevilla a routine 2-0 win over Logrones, who were never expected to trouble the Europa League winners much.

As shared by OptaJose, the hosts likely felt pretty good going into this match:

Fans witnessed a rather dull match with few chances, and the two first-half goals didn't help matters, as Sevilla didn't show much urgency to add to their lead after the break. Vicente Iborra was given a straight red card late for a tackle with both feet forward.

Espanyol beat Levante 2-1, surviving an early scare after Verza gave the visitors the lead in the eighth minute. Burgui equalised seven minutes later, and Felipe Caicedo scored the all-important winner in the second half.

As shared by Chris Henson of Football Radar, new Espanyol manager Galca immediately made some changes to his midfield in his first match on the Catalan bench:

Marco Asensio in particular looked strong on Tuesday, and the on-loan player from Real Madrid should become even more of a force under the guidance of Galca.

Sporting Gijon and Real Betis served up a fantastic match of football, playing out a 3-3 draw that was enough for the visitors to advance after they had won the first leg 2-0.

Alen Halilovic and Ricky van Wolfswinkel both found the target twice, with Bernardo and Alvaro Cejudo completing the scoring. AS English certainly enjoyed the encounter:

While Van Wolfswinkel was undoubtedly the top performer in the entertaining draw, Halilovic caught the eye of the fans. The Croatian youngster, on loan from Barcelona, started on the bench for Gijon, and his impact as a second-half substitute was enormous.

Per OptaJose, there's no looking past the strong season he's having:

The 19-year-old didn't look fantastic during his first few months with the Blaugrana, but he has found his footing with Gijon and seems like a future star for Barcelona. While his club's Copa Del Rey adventure is over, Halilovic has to be considered a winner after Tuesday's action.

Meanwhile, Betis continue their solid 2015-16 campaign, and per goalkeeper Antonio Adan, a win in the Copa was exactly what the fans were expecting, as he said during an interview with the club's official website:

"

For an institution such as Real Betis in compulsory to win the first rounds. We bear that target in mind. From then, we’ll see what rivals we have in the future. We need to keep bringing joy to our fans, Copa del Rey is a beautiful competition. Our task is to give over 100% to win rounds.

"

Deportivo La Coruna squeezed past minnows Llagostera, playing out a disappointing 1-1 draw in Catalonia after winning the first leg 2-1. Juan Dominguez Lamas gave the Galicians the lead after 68 minutes, and while Jordi Lopez Felpeto tied things up with just over 10 minutes left on the clock, the team from the Segunda Division couldn't force extra time with a late winner.

It was a remarkably poor performance from Deportivo given their strong form in La Liga, but ultimately, all that matters is qualification for the next round.
