Twitter Can't Quite Believe It as Leicester City Pile the Misery on Chelsea

Tom WebbDec 14, 2015

Leicester City continued their sensational season with a stunning 2-1 win over Chelsea on Monday...and Twitter loved it.

Prior to the game, fans were impressed by Frank Lampard's contribution to Sky Sports' Monday Night Football:

"

Lampard is very good at this analysis and punditry lark.

While the lineups promised a tasty battle between two troublesome forwards:

The teams started the day in surprising positions:

— Henry Winter (@henrywinter) December 14, 2015"

Into the action and Jamie Vardy's first contribution was to remove Eden Hazard from play:

"

Vardy just given Hazard a good old fashioned dead leg by the looks of things

— Simon Johnson (@sjstandardsport) December 14, 2015"
"

Jose may have just found a new excuse. Vardy.

— Copa90 (@Copa90) December 14, 2015"
"

Chelsea could do with having a proper doctor look at Hazard's injury. Any come to mind?

— David Easson (@DavidEasson) December 14, 2015"
"

Jamie Vardy - you're on the list

— Jenny Brown (@cfc_jb) December 14, 2015"

But his second gave Leicester the lead:

"

GOAL! Leicester City 1-0 Chelsea Jamie Vardy, of course... #VardyParty https://t.co/VHOE5rLMRT

— Bleacher Report UK (@br_uk) December 14, 2015"
"

Vardy! All he needs is one chance. Zouma's lazy defending though - let's him get the run on him. 1-0 Leicester lead. #CFC

"

Barely into the second half and it was time for the Foxes' other leading man to make his mark:

"

Just stop it, Leicester City! Riyad Mahrez, what a finish 🔥 #LCFC 2-0 #CFC pic.twitter.com/oAEGKkeiyp

— Bleacher Report UK (@br_uk) December 14, 2015"
"

That is absolutely sensational by Mahrez.

— Kristian vS Hæhre (@vonstrenginho) December 14, 2015"
"

STUNNING. Riyallygood Mahrez.

— gunnerblog (@gunnerblog) December 14, 2015"

Things were almost unspeakably bad for Chelsea:

"

Out-fought, out-thought, out-passed, out-classed. Chelsea absolutely miles behind Leicester in that first half...

— Phil Kitromilides (@PhilKitro) December 14, 2015"
"

I reckon the Ibis in Rotherham will be delighted to Welcome Chelsea ..

— Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) December 14, 2015"
"

This Chelsea season has lacked an outfield player having to go in goal. It really needs an outfield player having to go in goal.

— Adam Hurrey (@FootballCliches) December 14, 2015"
"

Dear Santa, I won't be requiring any gifts this year, thank you. I already have Chelsea. #LEICHE

— David Schneider (@davidschneider) December 14, 2015"
"

Reality is Mourinho knows games like these won't decide his season. Two big six-pointers against Sunderland and Watford coming up

— Barney Ronay (@barneyronay) December 14, 2015"

The home fans weren't showing any sympathy:

"

News of a 10-mile tailback southbound on the A1 greeted with roar like a goal by Leicester fans. "2-0 & you're walking home." Poor Chelsea.

— Jonathan Wilson (@jonawils) December 14, 2015"
"

2-0 and you're walking home sing the Leicester fans as pa announcer says there is a 10 mile tailback on the M1

— Simon Johnson (@sjstandardsport) December 14, 2015"

Before Chelsea pulled one back via Loic Remy:

"

"

Get at this Leicester defence and there are goals to be had. Were too concerned with Vardy and Mahrez when it was goalless.

— Garry Hayes (@garryhayes) December 14, 2015"

Mourinho's side piled on the pressure, but Leicester held on to claim another sensational victory:

"

Thought we might get a shock tonight. So much for the 'anyone can beat anyone' narrative of the Premier League. #LeiChe

— Rupert Fryer (@Rupert_Fryer) December 14, 2015"
"

Mad when it's finally Arsenal's season but Leicester win the league.

— Paul Santacast (@UtdRantcast) December 14, 2015"

While the latest defeat left Chelsea 16th, just one point above the relegation zone:

"

— Smug Sherwood (@SmugSherwood) December 14, 2015"
"

"Relegation six-pointer at The Bridge this weekend." Words I've never heard of before.

— Chu Morah (@ChuBoi) December 14, 2015"
"

A Sunderland win at the Bridge this weekend & Chelsea could be in the bottom 3 at Christmas.

— David Easson (@DavidEasson) December 14, 2015"
"

What happens if Chelsea go down but win the Champions League? I like that this is even a possibility.

— Tom McKeown (@TomEMcKeown) December 14, 2015"

What next from this totally unfathomable Premier League season?
