Under Armour Curry Two 'Rainmaker' Release Date, Pics and Retail Price

Tyler ConwayDec 15, 2015

Under Armour will continue its rollout of the Curry Twos this week with the release of the "Rainmaker" colorway. Released in time for the holiday season—they'll hit online retailers and brick-and-mortar stores Dec. 17 with a price of $130—the "Rainmakers" describe their star perhaps better than anything else.

Stephen Curry is averaging an NBA-high 32.3 points, 6.0 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game, helping lead the Warriors to a 24-1 start. Their 24 straight wins to begin the regular season was an NBA record, and Curry is far and away the favorite to win his second straight MVP award.

A large part of the reason is Curry's rainmaking tendencies. He leads the NBA with 127 made three-pointers and is shooting an impossibly high 45.8 percent on his 11.1 attempts per game.

"Curry isn’t a product of the math; he’s so good that he has his own math," Benjamin Morris wrote at FiveThirtyEight. "Indeed, the math is so far in Curry’s favor that the Warriors—and even basketball in general—may not fully understand what they have yet."

As for the product itself, simply put, the "Rainmakers" are among the best Curry Two colorways on the market. They mix a deep blue upper with a striking gray midsole and teal accentuation. The blue can look almost black in certain light, which makes the contrast of the gray and teal all the more interesting.

It falls in a surprisingly strong rollout that's already seen a number of high-profile colorways. In fact, Under Armour will be releasing the extremely bright "Northern Lights" look on the same day as the "Rainmakers."

"Stephen is a once-in-a-generation talent and has unprecedented influence on the game of basketball,” Adam Peake, Under Armour’s executive vice president for global marketing, said in a statement, per Jeff Barker of the Baltimore Sun. “His work ethic, uncompromising self-belief and commitment to the community are characteristics that make Stephen the perfect partner to ignite the growth of Under Armour in the sport of basketball and around the world.”

From an aesthetics standpoint, these could be worn on or off the court, though they trend more toward on-court wear. The bright teal contrast makes it a little difficult in terms of style matching, but it's possible—especially if one happens to be a Charlotte Hornets fan.

But alas, the Curry Two has been a strong seller regardless of colorway, and that should continue here.
