David Beckham Says He Prefers Watching Rugby to Football
Football fans across the country may be in for a shock after former England captain David Beckham admitted he prefers watching rugby.
The former Manchester United midfielder collected 115 caps for his country, a record for an outfield player, but his latest comments suggest the beautiful game may face competition for his attention from rugby.
"I love rugby," he told the Radio Times (via Hannah Furness of the Telegraph). "I love watching it and I love the whole thing. I have enjoyed going to Twickenham more than I have enjoyed watching football."
Why is that? "People sitting together with no nastiness," Beckham explained, comparing his experiences at rugby matches to those watching Manchester United play Tottenham Hotspur as a youngster, which he described as "never nice."
Beckham's indifference as a spectator doesn't appear to apply to playing, however, as he recently embarked on a global football tour that saw him play seven matches on seven different continents for the United Nations Children's Fund.
