Herrera's Class Rare Among United's Midfield Options
Herrera has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in the team under manager Louis van Gaal this term despite being a popular player with the United supporters.
When the former Athletic Club man starts, he provides assurance on the ball, balance in midfield and the killer passing that the Red Devils have lacked at times this season.
Van Gaal does have alternative options in central midfield. In the deeper positions, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger are a fine duo, while Michael Carrick is another option to hold the midfield together. Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini are also adept at fulfilling the role just off the centre-forward.
However, few of them operate between the lines quite as well as Herrera does, so the team will be glad to see him back.
