Elsewhere, Alex Teixeira kept us his prolific run for Shakhtar Donetsk with a double, while Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy became a Premier League record breaker, netting for the 11th game in succession.

Here’s a recap of how the standings are shaping up after another absorbing weekend of football across Europe and a reminder of how some of the main contenders for the award fared.
| 1. | Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang | Borussia Dortmund | 17 x 2 | 34.0 |
| 2. | Alex Teixeira | Shakhtar Donetsk | 21 x 1.5 | 31.5 |
| 3. | Robert Lewandowski | Bayern Munich | 14 x 2 | 28.0 |
| 4. | Tomas Radzinevicius | Suduva | 28 x 1 | 28.0 |
| 5. | Jamie Vardy | Leicester City | 14 x 2 | 28.0 |
| 6. | Neymar | Barcelona | 14 x 2 | 28.0 |
| 7. | Thomas Muller | Bayern Munich | 13 x 2 | 26.0 |
| 8. | Nemanja Nikolic | Legia Warsaw | 17 x 1.5 | 25.5 |
| 9. | Davit Arshakyan | Trakai | 25 x 1 | 25.0 |
| 10. | Richie Towell | Dundalk | 25 x 1 | 25.0 |
Rules: Each division is attributed a difficulty constant (between one and two), which is then multiplied by the number of goals scored to produce a total.
For example, La Liga is considered among the most difficult leagues to net in, so Neymar's 14 goals are doubled to create his points tally of 26. By contrast, the Lithuanian top flight has a constant of one, meaning Tomas Radzinevicius’s 28 goals equate to 28 points.
Red-Hot Aubameyang Extends His Lead

Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel places an emphasis on attacking and Aubameyang, who has scored 17 goals in 14 Bundesliga games, has been the main beneficiary of that.
BVB move the ball quickly from back to front, seeking to exploit gaps in the defensive setup of the opposition. For a player who loiters on the shoulder of the last defender as the Gabon international does, it’s a perfect stylistic setup—and one which is looking increasingly likely to land him this coveted award.
As we can see here courtesy of Soccer St., the first of Aubameyang’s two goals was a delicate finish and a massive indicator of his confidence:
"Aubameyang is pretty good.

While players such as Willian, Fernandinho, Douglas Costa and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have all left Shakhtar in recent seasons for more illustrious clubs on the continent, Teixeira has remained at the heart of this team and is now showing his quality. So it’s little surprise that Chelsea have been linked with a possible January move, per Simon Johnson of the London Evening Standard.
The Blues have also been linked with Vardy, per Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror, who continued his own prolific form to break a longstanding Premier League record.
Sky Sports News HQ summed up the achievements of the England international as he netted Leicester’s opening goal in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday evening:
Vardy’s energy, endeavour and work rate at the point of the Foxes attack has embodied his side. Sat in second place in the Premier League table, manager Claudio Ranieri deserves immense credit for the manner in which he’s got the best from this squad and especially the striker.

A little further down the list, Barcelona’s Neymar remains in the hunt, as he continued his own tremendous form in La Liga.
The 23-year-old was at his dazzling best once again this weekend, as he notched two goals and one assist to help the Blaugrana get the better of Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou; Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi also bagged a goal each.
As noted here by Squawka Football, not only does Neymar score goals, he’s a regular creator for his illustrious team-mates too:
Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller may be one to watch for the remaining weeks of the season, as he continues to build momentum, netting another goal as Bayern beat Hertha Berlin 2-0. The German now has 13 for the season, just one behind team-mate Robert Lewandowski.

Last year’s winner, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, netted his ninth of the campaign, slotting a penalty in a 2-0 win over Eibar.
The Portuguese star has a lot of ground to make up if he’s to win this coveted award for what would be a fifth time in his career, although given his goalscoring pedigree, you wouldn’t put it past him turning on the style in the run up to the festive period and beyond.
