Louis Van Gaal Confirms Interest in Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United Reunion

Joseph ZuckerNov 21, 2015

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal fanned the flames of a potential return to Old Trafford for Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday, telling reporters the club would like to have the Real Madrid winger back.

"Ronaldo plays on the wings, and he is fast and scores goals," said Van Gaal, per Simon Mullock of the Daily Mirror. "There is no trainer in the world that doesn't like him. Of course we are looking—but are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable. With Ronaldo, let's wait and hope."

While Van Gaal pointed toward a possible reunion, his sentiments wouldn't differ all that much from any other manager in the world. Every major European club—with the exception of Barcelona—is likely "looking" at a transfer for Ronaldo and "hoping" he'd sign.

Van Gaal wasn't entirely definitive in terms of saying United will make a major push to try and bring Ronaldo back.

With that said, the comments coincidentally come on the same day Madrid lost 4-0 to Barcelona. As Bleacher Report UK showed, Ronaldo often cut a forlorn figure on the pitch during the defeat:

Brooks Peck of the Dirty Tackle joked the Portuguese star was already working on an exit plan from the Santiago Bernabeu:

Until Ronaldo walks away from football for good, the talk of a transfer to Manchester United will never cease, no matter how much he attempts to close that chapter of his career.

Desperate supporters will continue clinging to the slimmest of chances he will don the United shirt again sometime before he retires.
