Brandon Weeden Released by Cowboys: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
Brandon Weeden failed to adequately fill in for Tony Romo as the Dallas Cowboys' starting quarterback, leading America's Team to release the former first-round draft pick Tuesday.
David Helman of the Cowboys' official website reported the news. ESPN.com's Adam Caplan added context for the transaction, as Romo is preparing to return from a fractured left clavicle:

NFL Network's Albert Breer added an encouraging, brief quote from a source on Romo's status for this Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins:
Although the numbers don't look bad (72.4 percent completion rate, 7.5 yards per attempt and a 92.1 passer rating), Weeden lost all three of his starts in relief of Romo, leading Dallas to trade for Matt Cassel during the season. The 32-year-old still struggles to see the entire field and often threw conservative, underneath routes during his time under center in 2015.
Cassel stepped in for Weeden but has lost his four starts, logging a 75.9 passer rating in the process. CBS Sports Radio's Damon Amendolara weighed in on the Dallas duo’s ineptitude at the most important position:
Weeden may get another chance elsewhere due to his arm talent and signs of improvement with a more stable organization after an unsuccessful tenure as a starter in Cleveland.
Cowboys fans have to be excited to have an elite QB in Romo back in the lineup. This season has gone a long way to prove the four-time Pro Bowler's value.
The NFC East crown is still achievable for the Cowboys despite their abysmal 2-7 record. Romo does have a tough task upon his return in facing a talented Dolphins defense—headlined by star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh—on the road in Week 11.
