Chelsea Considering Cancelling Falcao's Loan
Saturday, Nov. 14
Falcao's season-long loan, which he agreed to on July 3, may be cancelled in January so the Blues can pursue a new striker, according to Peter O'Rourke of ESPN FC.
The 29-year-old striker has only one goal in nine matches, and he has started only one match this year for the struggling Chelsea squad. Falcao was on a season-long loan with Manchester United last year after stints with Atletico Madrid and Monaco.
O'Rourke noted that Falcao could be open to leaving Chelsea when the transfer window opens in January, but Chelsea and Monaco would need to come to an agreement to terminate the loan.
This is just another notch in an all-round terrible season for Chelsea, who sit in 16th in the Premier League and are winless in five of their last six matches. Falcao's presence was supposed to add depth to what seemed to be a terrific attack led by Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Oscar, but that has not been the case.
One option, albeit a long shot, for Chelsea is luring Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. Jack de Menezes of the Independent reported that Chelsea are prepared to make a £70 million offer to the Real star this summer with Hazard as the bargaining chip.
"Despite the Portuguese international set to turn 31 years old before the season ends, Chelsea are hoping to make Ronaldo their key signing of the summer, and they would certainly have the funds available to do so should they elect to sell the out-of-form Hazard in the summer," he wrote.
