David Luiz Comments on Return to PSG Following Paris Attacks

Alec NathanNov 14, 2015

Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz is currently in South America for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches with the Brazilian national team, but the 28-year-old is reportedly rethinking a return to his French club following Friday's tragic terrorist attacks in Paris.

"I have my girlfriend and some family and friends in Paris," Luiz said, according to the Daily Mail's Oliver Todd. "They were all very sad and scared. I don't know what I'm going to do and whether I will head back [to Paris]. Playing for PSG is my job, but if it were up to me then I would not go back."

Todd reported Uruguayan PSG striker Edinson Cavani also holds reservations about returning to France, but he has yet to express those feelings publicly.

"The Paris attacks are awful for football and life," Cavani's countryman Alvaro Gonzalez said, per Todd. "Cavani told us that he would prefer not to return there."

Following Friday's horrific events, Paris Saint-Germain released the following statement on their official website: "All Paris Saint-Germain's sporting fixtures, for both football and handball, have been cancelled for this weekend and the official club shops will remain closed."

Luiz was in action on Friday evening, when Brazil failed to take advantage of an undermanned Argentinian side as the two South American powers played to a 1-1 draw. Luiz is set to wrap up the current segment of qualifying play on Nov. 17 against Peru.

Paris Saint-Germain are slated to be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 21, for a Ligue 1 showdown with Lorient before resuming Champions League play on Nov. 25 against Malmo.
