Julian Jones Suspended, Charged with Sexual Battery: Latest Details, Reaction
University of Illinois linebacker Julian Jones will be extradited to Georgia and reportedly faces charges of aggravated sexual battery.
According to Lauren Laws of IllinoisHomePage.net, Jones was in Georgia in October when the team had an off week. The state is accusing Jones of "fleeing the state to avoid prosecution."
This news came after Illinois head football coach Bill Cubit announced Wednesday that Jones had been suspended indefinitely pending a criminal investigation, per WAND-17 TV.
According to the Associated Press (via ESPN.com), Jones is from Atlanta, but the town where the alleged crime is said to have happened has not been made public.
Per Jeremy Werner of Scout.com, Jones was booked on a charge of "fugitive from justice" and was in court Thursday for criminal arraignment.
Jones, a freshman for the Illini, has appeared in eight of their nine games this season, recording three total tackles. Illinois is currently 5-4 and needs one more victory in its last three games to become bowl eligible for the second consecutive season.
