Naquan Jones Decommits from Michigan State: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction

Class of 2016 defensive tackle Naquan Jones decommitted from the Michigan State Spartans on Tuesday.

Jones took to Twitter to announce he would keep his college options open (h/t the Detroit News):

After speaking with my family and my mentor, I would like to thank everyone at Michigan State University. To the coaches and fans I am extremely appreciative for the great opportunity of part of the Spartan family. With that being said after much thought I've decided to reopen my recruiting.

"

The 4-star product of Evanston Township High School in Illinois is the No. 22 DT prospect in the country, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.

Listed at 6'4" and 283 pounds, Jones has tremendous physical attributes and athleticism. Other standout qualities from Jones' senior Hudl film are his quickness off the ball, a knack for disengaging blockers and diagnosing a play as well as the versatility to line up on the outside or inside of the defensive line.

When he committed to Sparty in June, Jones had turned down offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Penn State. It appears as though Jones has his mind on the SEC rather than the Big Ten, though.

Other schools who previously pursued Jones included his other finalists in Florida and South Carolina. The Gators have shown immense improvement under new coach Jim McElwain and are thought to be a logical suitor, per Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports:

Scout.com's Yancy Porter reported Ole Miss has booked an official visit for Jones, so the Rebels appear to be in the running for his services as well. They managed to lure stud DT prospect Robert Nkemdiche to Oxford, which can't hurt their odds of landing a less hyped recruit in Jones.
