EPL Results: Saturday's Week 12 Scores, Updated 2015 Table, Top Fantasy Scorers

James DudkoNov 7, 2015

Marko Arnautovic piled the pressure on under-fire Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, striking the goal that condemned the reigning champions to a seventh league defeat already this season.

Manchester United earned a vital win to move to within a point of the Premier League's top two. United saw off West Bromwich Albion thanks to some individual brilliance from Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard.

But they weren't the only double act that proved decisive. Southampton leaned on the skill of Dusan Tadic and the commitment of defender Ryan Bertrand to heap more misery on relegation-threatened Sunderland.

Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard: 8 Points

Mata was in splendid form for an otherwise stunted United side at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were struggling to break visiting West Bromwich Albion down. They needed Mata's ingenuity.

After Lingard gave United the lead, Mata stroked home the second from the penalty spot following a terrific run from Anthony Martial. The decisive spot-kick only emphasised Mata's influence for United in attacking areas, a factor OptaJoe noted:

As for Lingard, he bagged his first goal for the senior side to cap an impressive display. His well-taken strike, thundered in less than 10 minutes into the second half, represented a rare long-range effort for usually meticulous United, according to Squawka:

United's mix of youth and experience eventually served to reinvigorate a generally sluggish display.

Dusan Tadic and Ryan Bertrand: 8 Points

Southampton's win at Sunderland came when Yann M'Vila brought down full-back Bertrand. It was a reckless tackle that clever winger Tadic stepped up to punish from the spot.

Tadic had been a consistent menace to the Sunderland defence. He combined well with striker Graziano Pelle to force Costel Pantilimon into several early saves.

Bertrand's pace and direct running were another cause for headaches for Mackems manager Sam Allardyce. Both Bertrand and Tadic enabled the Saints to produce a classic away performance. They were compact in shape and devilishly quick and inventive on the break.

Despite his goal, though, Tadic called on his teammates to be more ruthless in front of goal during an interview with BBC Sport (h/t BBC Radio Solent Sport Twitter):

Marko Arnautovic: 8 Points

Maverick attacker Arnautovic proved Stoke's most consistent attacking outlet against Chelsea at the Britannia Stadium. The visiting Blues actually bossed most of the proceedings, and the Potters needed Arnautovic's skill, pace and power on the break.

Arnautovic punished wasteful Chelsea.

It was against the run of play that the Austrian struck. He used good technique on the half-volley to beat former Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic after a cross from full-back Glen Johnson.

Jonny Howson: 8 Points

Jonny Howson condemned free-falling Swansea City to defeat with a close-range goal. His accurate header gave newly promoted Norwich City three vital points.

Midfield is where the Canaries are strongest. Howson combined with cerebral schemer Wes Hoolahan and winger Robbie Brady to help the home side make the most of some rare possession.

Chelsea's fall from grace since lifting last season's title is becoming almost too brutal to watch. Meanwhile, at the top, United are hardly winning plaudits for their pedestrian football. But manager Louis van Gaal's team remains in touch in the title race.
