Kareem Walker to Michigan: Wolverines Land 4-Star RB Prospect
Kareem Walker, a 4-star running back from New Jersey, committed to Michigan on Thursday, per Scout Recruiting.
The DePaul Catholic High School star is the top running back prospect in the country, the No. 2 prospect from the state of New Jersey and the No. 38 prospect overall in the 2016 class, according to 247Sports. Standing at 6'1" and weighing 210 pounds, Walker made his mark in the 2014 season, when he rushed for 1,607 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Walker originally committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes but backed out of that commitment in early November:
That was good news for Michigan, which is getting an "explosive" player who runs with a "low center of gravity," according to Brian Dohn of Scout.com (via Allen Trieu of Scout.com). He has excellent vision, bursts through the hole once it opens, runs through arm tackles and has solid top-end speed.
Walker has the potential to be a difference-maker on offense and could contribute immediately at running back. He already has good size to go along with a natural feel for the position and excellent athleticism. If he adds some strength, he could be a beast at the next level.
In this case, Ohio State's loss was the Wolverines gain.
