Head coach Gary Andersen said Collins will not play Saturday versus the Golden Bears, per Jeff Faraudo of the Bay Area News Group.
Andersen Comments on Collins' Injury
Friday, Oct. 30
"I have no idea," Andersen said, per Gina Mizeli of theย Oregonian. "He left the field even before stretch was over with, and [I] haven't seen him since. We'll have to get updates from Doc [Dr. Doug Aukerman] as we move forward. I'm always optimistic.โ
Collins' Injury Adds to Bleak Outlook of Beavers' Season
The Beavers will turn toย redshirt freshman Nick Mitchell, who played hisย first gameย in Week 8 against Colorado, throwing nine completions on 24 attemptsย for 122 yards, noย touchdowns and an interception.
Collins, aย true freshman,ย won the starting jobย over Marcus McMaryion after the season opener. He's amassed 890 pass yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions while also churning out 536 rush yards and another five scores.
The nature of his injury is worrisome, given his dual-threat versatility.ย John Canzano of KGW Newsย highlighted how sorely the team will miss him in the interim:
Oregon State is 2-5 and will play UCLA, Cal, Washington and Oregon after Utah to finish the season. With wins over only Weber State and San Jose State when Collins was healthy, an optimisticย finish to the season seems ambitious.
