La Liga Results 2015: Full Table and Scores After Final Week 9 Match

Rory MarsdenOct 26, 2015

Aritz Aduriz bagged an impressive double on Monday to help Athletic Bilbao down Sporting Gijon 3-0 and move up into 12th in the Liga table.

Ernesto Valverde's side put in an impressive flowing performance at the San Mames Stadium, with Markel Susaeta opening the scoring just before the half hour before Aduriz netted either side of half time.

Sporting made a decent start to the match, but they simply could not deal with Athletic's impressive one-touch passing.

The visitors more than held their own in the opening exchanges in Bilbao, Jony causing particular problems for Athletic.

However, the hosts grew into the game and began to dominate proceedings. In the 29th minute, after a terrific build up, Inaki Williams squared the ball from the right for the onrushing Susaeta to bundle home.

Just before half-time, things got worse for Sporting as Omar Mascarell conceded a penalty after felling Williams in the box.

Aduriz stepped up to take the spot-kick, and although his initial effort was saved, he impressively smashed home the rebound on the half-volley to make it 2-0.

Per AS, Athletic continued their dominance in the second half, and it seemed only a matter of time before they sealed the three points with a third goal:

It eventually came in the 67th minute after another string of quick passes from the hosts found Benat Etxebarria in the middle.

Surging forward, he clipped a perfect ball to the left to find Aduriz, who fired his second goal of the night home with aplomb.

He almost earned a hat-trick late on as he swivelled on the edge of the area and fired a shot goalwards, but Alberto Garcia got down well to keep it out.

It was an impressive performance from Athletic and extended their league run without a defeat to four matches.

Real retained their place at the top of the table as they preserved their unbeaten record with a 3-1 victory away at Celta Vigo.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Danilo and Marcelo all netted for Los Blancos, while Nolito bagged a stunner for Celta in their first defeat of the campaign.

Goalkeeper Keylor Navas was again terrific for Rafa Benitez's side, per the Mirror's Ed Malyon:

Barcelona responded with their own 3-1 win, Luis Suarez netting a hat-trick as the Catalans downed Eibar at the Camp Nou.

Barca had gone 1-0 down after Borja Baston's early strike, but the former Liverpool striker proved the difference-maker as Luis Enrique's men drew level on points with Real.

It was a decent performance, but one marred by Javier Mascherano's red card for dissent—which could see him banned for several games.

Atletico moved up into third with their victory—two points back from Barca and Real—Diego Simeone's men overcoming Valencia 2-1 at the Vicente Calderon.

Sevilla continued their decent run of form with a 5-0 home drubbing of Getafe, which included a Kevin Gameiro hat-trick.

After a very poor start to the new league campaign, in which they did not record a win in their first five matches, Sevilla have now taken an impressive 10 points from their last four encounters.

David Moyes' Real Sociedad were the other big winners in Week 9 as they thrashed Levante 4-0 away from home for only their second victory of the season.
