Borussia Dortmund vs. Augsburg: Team News, Preview, Live Stream, TV Info

Lars PollmannOct 24, 2015

Borussia Dortmund host FC Augsburg on Matchday 10 of the 2015/16 Bundesliga season on Sunday.

The visitors are dead last in the Bundesliga table, with only one win all season, a 2-0 victory over Hannover 96 on September 20. They are coming off the first win in Europe in the club's history on Thursday, however, when they beat AZ Alkmaar, 1-0, away from home.

German magazine Kicker (link in German) called it a lucky victory over the Dutch side, while Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter, a Dortmund legend, praised his team's fighting spirit.

Former Germany international Piotr Trochowski scored the winner for the Swabians with a beautiful free-kick, but the distinction of man of the match went to goalkeeper Marvin Hitz. The Swiss saved his team in the fourth minute of extra time with a reaction save denying Alkmaar's Markus Henriksen. Hitz's display earned him a spot in the UEFA Europa League team of the week.

Dortmund won their Europa League match on Thursday as well, beating Azerbaijani side Qabala, 3-1. Sunday marks Dortmund's first game in the Westfalenstadion after three straight games away from home. In Dortmund, Borussia have won seven of eight in all competitions, scoring at least two goals in each match, according to the club's official website.

In February, Augsburg won the fixture in Dortmund, dropping the hosts to the last spot in the Bundesliga table. It's the only win for Augsburg in the history of meetings between the two sides.

Neven Subotic and his Dortmund team were dead last after losing the last encounter with Augsburg.

Predicted Lineups

Dortmund

Burki; Ginter, Papastathopoulos, Hummels, Schmelzer; Weigl; Reus, Gundogan, Kagawa, Mkhitaryan; Aubameyang

The entire current first-choice XI is available to head coach Thomas Tuchel, so any deviation would be surprising. Roman Burki, Marcel Schmelzer and Henrikh Mkhitaryan should replace Roman Weidenfeller, Park Joo-ho and Jonas Hofmann, who started in the Europa League.

Augsburg

Hitz; VerhaeghCallsen-BrackerKlavan, Max; Baier; EssweinKohrHalil AltintopWerner; Bobadilla

Head coach Markus Weinzierl used the Europa League to rotate his squad a bit, with Esswein, Kohr and Altintop getting a rest. They should all return to the starting lineup.

RESTRICTIONS: DURING MATCH TIME: DFL RULE

Captain Paul Verhaegh is questionable with an ankle injury, according to Kicker (link in German). Losing him for the game would have a big impact, since he's been their best player so far this season. Former Dortmund man Markus Feulner would be his likely replacement, since backup right-back Daniel Opare has yet to see the field in a competitive match.

Players to Watch

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Thursday's hat-trick hero, is in fantastic form and will be a handful for the Augsburg defence. The Gabon international scored a treble against Augsburg in his first-ever Bundesliga match.

Raul Bobadilla could be key for Augsburg. The Paraguay international has yet to score in the league this season, after bagging a respectable 10 goals over the course of the last campaign. The sturdy striker is not a joy to defend, since he knows every trick in the book and is everything but a stationary target man. He often eludes the centre-backs by making runs to the sides or dropping deep into a midfield role.

Key Battle

Henrikh Mkhitaryan vs. Augsburg's Right-back

MUNICH, GERMANY - OCTOBER 04: Henrikh Mkhitaryan of Borussia Dortmund runs with the ball during the Bundesliga match between FC Bayern Muenchen and Borussia Dortmund at Allianz Arena on October 4, 2015 in Munich, Germany. (Photo by Boris Streubel/Getty

A rested Mkhitaryan, who chose to stay at home during the week because of safety concerns, could wreak havoc on Augsburg. With Schmelzer back in the fold at left-back providing width deep into the opposing half, Mkhitaryan is expected to return to his regular spot on the left side of the attacking midfield, from where he likes to make runs into the box.

Augsburg could have major problems defending the Armenian, especially if they have to replace Verhaegh. Even if the Dutch skipper plays, he'd likely be at less than 100 percent, which would make it tough for him to cover Mkhitaryan's runs.

Weinzierl could ask defensive-minded midfielder Dominik Kohr to help out on the left side of defence, but that could expose the middle of the park to Shinji Kagawa and Ilkay Gundogan.

Dortmund could have a field day with Augsburg caught in this conundrum.

Odds

Dortmund: 20/87

Draw: 6/1

Augsburg: 25/2
