Sunday Night Football Week 7: TV Schedule, Live Stream for Eagles vs. Panthers

Chris RolingOct 25, 2015

Few teams are as hot as the Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers entering the Week 7 edition of Sunday Night Football.

It's been a slow burn for head coach Chip Kelly's Eagles, who in recent weeks have discovered what lead back DeMarco Murray can do en route to 39-17 and 27-7 wins over the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants, respectively, to plant themselves at 3-3.

The road has been simpler for the 5-0 Panthers, who are riding MVP-level play from quarterback Cam Newton and an elite defense into Week 7 after escaping CenturyLink Field with a 27-23 road victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Team Injury Reports

No injuries listed for Carolina.

Staying Grounded

It's not hard to see what's working for the Eagles: the ground approach.

Whether it's Ryan Mathews or Murray, a running back has rushed for at least 80 yards in three of the team's last four games. In the only loss during that span, no back rushed more than eight times for 36 yards.

In the Eagles' past two wins, quarterback Sam Bradford has mustered just three scores while throwing five picks, an alarming sign for an uptempo offense that cannot afford to become one-dimensional in its approach.

Bradford spoke with the media about fixing his turnover problem, per ESPN.com:

"

If I knew (what the problem was), I would stop throwing them. It is something that I never really had a problem with in my career. I have never thrown a lot of interceptions, so this is kind of new to me. But we're going to get it fixed. I'm going to get it fixed. And hopefully we are going to eliminate that from our offense.

"

Bradford needs to iron out the issue in a hurry, because the Luke Kuechly-led Panthers rank among the top 10 teams in terms of yards allowed per game and have already forced 11 turnovers.

On the road, Bradford's ability to take care of the football, or lack thereof, might decide the contest.

Riding the Surge

Few expected this from the Panthers.

After No. 1 wideout Kelvin Benjamin suffered a season-ending ACL injury, most shrugged the team off. Newton has responded with 11 total touchdowns, taking to the air when necessary and otherwise perplexing defenses with his legs despite the fact that lead back Jonathan Stewart isn't averaging even four yards per carry.

It won't be simple sledding against the Eagles and a defense that is permitting fewer than 20 points per game, but the Panthers happen to have one of those, too.

In fact, the Panthers have allowed a maximum of 23 points in a game this year. A week ago, it held Seattle's Russell Wilson to 241 yards and a score through the air and Marshawn Lynch to 54 yards and a score on the ground.

Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott sounds confident thanks to his unit's past experience against Kelly's offense, too, per ESPN.com's David Newton.

“Like anything, you learn from experience and going through it," McDermott said. “I would imagine most of our players, even some of the new guys that played Philadelphia in the last year or two since coach [Chip] Kelly's been there, it definitely helps."

The Panthers hope that applying past lessons and leaning on obvious strengths will win the day and keep the team rolling to a 6-0 start.

Prediction

Newton and Co. can play their game and win Sunday night.

This seems like the perfect setup for Carolina, hence the way Las Vegas feels from a line standpoint.

While it's great that the Eagles have discovered something of a running game, the recipe is unlikely to work on the road against the Panthers. Shoehorned into a pass-first attack, especially if they fall behind, Bradford and the Eagles will have a hard time keeping pace if they start to turn the ball over.

A quarterback such as Newton, who can pick up chunk plays through the air and on the ground, has a way of neutralizing quick-twitch attacks. Look for the Panthers to control the clock and put the Philadelphia offense in a rough spot, forcing Bradford to commit a few turnovers.

Prediction: Panthers win 24-17.
