Devon Still Says He Wasn't Fined for Writing 'Leah Strong' on Eye Black

Former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Devon Still's daughter, Leah, was diagnosed with pediatric cancer last year, and Still wore eye black with the words "Leah Strong" as a tribute during the 2014 NFL season.

Still spoke Tuesday about his decision to show his support for his daughter during every game last year, indicating he wasn't fined for his actions, per ESPN.com's Coley Harvey:

"

When I did it, I had no idea you weren't allowed to do it. It was just something I wanted to do for my daughter to take her out on the field with me. I didn't really get any backlash from the league.

[...] Myself and a few other players had been having meetings with the league about what it can do to help players more in promoting their causes. It seemed like we were making strides with the league in support of players who had certain causes.

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward wore eye black with "Ironhead" to honor his father, Craig, who died of a brain tumor in 2006. Heyward announced last week he was fined by the NFL for doing so but wrote "Ironhead" on his eye black for Sunday's victory over the Arizona Cardinals as well.

"I definitely support him," said Still in regard to Heyward's situation. "He's using his platform and trying to support his dad with an important cause. I don't see nothing wrong that."

Heyward's teammate DeAngelo Williams requested to wear pink throughout this season to honor his late mother who died of breast cancer in May 2014, but the NFL denied him.

In addition to speaking out to the media, Still has been involved with the NFL in working on a resolution to the uniform policy as it is. It appears the policy is being inconsistently enforced, but an adequate amendment is bound to materialize soon enough with Still and other players engaging in talks with the league.
