Rory MarsdenOct 19, 2015

Stoke City claimed a third consecutive Premier League victory on Monday as they downed Swansea City 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium.

Bojan Krkic's early strike from the penalty spot proved the difference as the Swans failed to register a victory for the fifth league game in a row.

Manchester City kept their place at the top of the Premier League table with a 5-1 drubbing of Bournemouth on Saturday, while Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all won well.

In-Form Stoke Down Struggling Swansea

Bojan drew a spot-kick in the fourth minute after being clipped in the penalty area by Ashley Williams following a strong start from the Potters.

The Spaniard stepped up to convert, sending Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski the wrong way.

The visitors kept the pressure on Swansea and another Williams mistake handed Joselu a gilt-edged chance for 2-0, but he could not make it count.

Garry Monk's side were improved as they came out for the second half, but they lacked composure in front of goal.

Bafetimbi Gomis squandered a couple of decent opportunities soon after the break before Jonjo Shelvey hit the post from a tight angle.

In fact, quality was lacking from both sides making for a somewhat laboured contest, per PaddyPower:

The hosts dominated possession in the latter stages but Stoke's defence held firm, and they hung on to claim a 1-0 win and move up to 11th in the Premier League table.

Sunday's clash between Norwich City and Newcastle United was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the weekend's action as the Magpies picked up their first win of the season with a 6-2 victory.

Georginio Wijnaldum scored four times to join the legendary Alan Shearer in an elite group of Newcastle players, per Opta:

It was a vital win for Newcastle, who have made a poor start to the new season, and it was manager Steve McClaren's first victory in the Premier League since April 2006, per Infostrada Sports

Defending champions Chelsea also registered a pressure-relieving victory as they won 2-0 at home against Aston Villa to move up the table.

Meanwhile, second-placed Arsenal and the third-placed Red Devils kept up the pressure on table-topping City with victories of their own.

Raheem Sterling registered a first senior career hat-trick as City coped admirably without Sergio Aguero in beating Bournemouth, per BBC's Match of the Day.

However, they could not extend their lead at the top of the table. Louis van Gaal's United put in arguably their best performance of the season so far as they beat Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park.

The Gunners scored three goals in the final half-hour of their away clash at Watford to secure another three points.

In the two managerial debuts of the weekend, Jurgen Klopp earned a point with Liverpool against Tottenham Hotspur in a 0-0 draw, while Sam Allardyce's Sunderland lost 1-0 to West Brom.

Slaven Bilic's West Ham recorded another impressive away win with a 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace to move into fourth place in the league, and Leicester City came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Southampton.

Week 10's feature fixture sees City and United clash for the Manchester derby at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils in with a chance of going top of the league if they win.

Struggling Sunderland have their own derby clash with Newcastle at the Stadium of Light and desperately need a victory to avoid being cut adrift at the bottom of the table.
