NFL Power Rankings Week 7: Predictions for Post-Monday Night Football Standings

Steven CookOct 19, 2015

Another wild week of NFL action won't be in the books until Monday Night Football's showdown between Philadelphia and the New York Giants, but there have already been more than enough results to shake up the power rankings.

It was another solid week for the unbeaten teams of the league, as the Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers all continued their perfect starts. The Carolina Panthers joined them in surprise fashion, pulling off a late comeback to beat the Seattle Seahawks.

From more struggles of the Kansas City Chiefs and an insurmountable hole to start 2015 in Baltimore, there's no shortage of sour results to go along with the sweet ones. With that being said, let's look at where every single team stands in the latest installment of power rankings.

Buffalo Bills

One step forward, two steps back. That seems to be the recipe for the Buffalo Bills, and it's not surprising to see head coach Rex Ryan having them in that position in his first season at the helm.

Injuries have absolutely decimated Buffalo's offense throughout six weeks of the season, with the starting quarterback, top two running backs and the top receiver missing time over the last few games. They got LeSean McCoy back Sunday, but it didn't matter, as the unbeaten Bengals throttled them 34-21 in Buffalo.

To make matters worse, Sammy Watkins—who had just returned from injury—looked to have a serious ankle injury that was later ruled a sprain, as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported. But it's only more bad news for an offense that can't keep its talent on the field.

All in all, the loss results in Ryan's record becoming even worse on the heels of a victory, as Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network noted:

Buffalo will have to eventually buck that trend if it truly has playoff aspirations. An 8-8 record isn't going to get it done in the AFC this year.

With Houston, Miami, Jacksonville and Kansas City as four of the next six games, there remains the opportunity for the Bills to get hot and make a surge toward a playoff spot. But that had better come soon, or the Bills will be in for another mediocre season.

San Francisco 49ers

Don't look now, but the San Francisco 49ers are quietly beginning to make something of what's been pegged as a lost season since before it even began.

Sure, the 49ers are just 2-4 and have a four-game losing streak sandwiched in between their only two victories of the season. But what they showed against a desperate Baltimore Ravens bunch showed that they're closer to contention than many want to believe.

Colin Kaepernick flirted with a 400-yard passing game, and his aerial attack was on point with more receivers putting up yards than the franchise has seen in decades, per Matt Maiocco of CSN:

Despite this strong win, it's hard to ignore the fact that the Niners were simply dominated throughout a stretch of this season. As unbelievable as it may be, San Francisco was outscored by a whopping 79 points throughout a three-loss span.

They were burned the following week by Eli Manning's late game-winning drive, but it hasn't seemed to discourage the 49ers. Instead, they'll enter a Thursday Night Football showdown with Seattle holding all the momentum.

And somehow, both the Seahawks and Niners will enter with the same 2-4 record.
