Lamar Robbins Arrested: Latest Details, Mugshot and More on USF DB

Mike ChiariOct 16, 2015

The University of South Florida's football team took another hit Thursday, when junior defensive back Lamar Robbins was arrested.

According to Joey Knight of the Tampa Bay Times, the Miami native was taken into custody and charged with a second-degree felony of discharging a weapon on school property and a misdemeanor of providing false information to a law-enforcement officer.

"We cannot state strongly enough our commitment to the values of our institution and that any behavior inconsistent with those will not be tolerated," USF announced in the wake of the Robbins' arrest, courtesy of Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.

Robbins is being held in jail on $8,000 bond, per Knight. Here is a look at his mugshot, courtesy of WTVT Assignment Desk on Twitter:

According to Knight, Robbins' arrest is connected to an incident involving Bulls freshman offensive lineman Benjamin Knox. Per Claire McNeill of the Tampa Bay Times, Knox was arrested Sunday after allegedly shooting at the exterior of a student dormitory on the University of South Florida campus.

Knox was subsequently suspended by the team, according to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN.com), and it is certainly possible Robbins could meet a similar fate.

Although Robbins played quite a bit last season and recorded an interception, he has been used sparingly in 2015 thus far to the tune of three tackles.

He is behind the likes of Deatrick Nichols and Johnny Ward on the depth chart at cornerback, but he does provide the 2-3 Bulls with some insurance in the secondary.

If Robbins misses time due to the gun incident, there will be even more pressure on USF's top corners to play at a high level and avoid injury.
