Bayern Release Statement on Ancelotti
Sunday, Dec. 20
"Pep Guardiola (44) will not extend his contract with FC Bayern Munchen. The German record champions’ new coach from 1 July 2016 will be Carlo Ancelotti. The 56-year-old Italian will receive a three-year contract expiring on 30 June 2019," read a Bayern press release.
Munich Offers Ancelotti Chance to Extend Dominance in Europe
The Italian has been on a break from management since being axed from his position with Real Madrid in May 2015, but the 56-year-old has nevertheless remained in demand.
Joining Bayern could turn out to be a fine business decision for Ancelotti, with the German champions continuing to dominate the domestic scene. Having won trophies with Chelsea (England), Real Madrid (Spain) Paris Saint-Germain (France) and AC Milan (Italy), Germany is the only one of Europe's major footballing countries left for Ancelotti to try and conquer.
He also brings a stellar record in the European Cup, which is the trophy Bayern crave most as they search for their first triumph in the competition since 2013.
