Monday Recap
Group C: Slovakia Seal Automatic Qualification
Three goals in six first-half minutes proved decisive for Slovakia as they saw off a spirited Luxembourg side.
Marek Hamsik opened the scoring after 24 minutes before goals from Adam Nemec and Robert Mak in the space of a minute gave the visitors an unassailable lead.
Luxembourg made a valiant attempt at a comeback with a strike from Mario Mutsch and a Lars Gerson penalty, but a last-minute strike from Hamsik ensured they went home with all three points and second place in the group.
Slovakia's win also ensured Ukraine would finish third whatever their result against Spain.
An early goal from Mario Gaspar was enough to separate the two sides, though La Roja would have scored again had Cesc Fabregas not missed his fourth penalty for Spain from four attempts, per Squawka Football:
Ukraine had plenty of chances themselves, though, per football journalist Dermot Corrigan:
Corrigan also questioned manager Vicente del Bosque's recent selections, which show little indication of how the team are likely to line up in France next year:
The group's other match between Belarus and Macedonia finished in a scoreless draw.
Group E: England Maintain Perfect Record
Goals from Ross Barkley, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and an own goal from Giedrius Arlauskis gave Roy Hodgson's side 10 wins from 10 in qualification for Euro 2016—only the sixth time a side has done so ahead of the European Championship finals.
Arlauskis was unfortunate to be given the own goal not only because he put in an otherwise excellent performance, but also it denied Harry Kane his fourth goal for the Three Lions. The striker's shot rebounded off the near post and in off the 'keeper's back.
As Opta Joe notes, the record means little for England's hopes of doing well in the tournament:
What will help indicate their progress are their upcoming friendlies, shared by Squawka Football:
They will provide a much better yardstick by which to judge England, so manager Roy Hodgson will need to take full advantage of them to form his plan for France.
Elsewhere, a last-minute own goal by Ragnar Klavan handed Switzerland a narrow win over Estonia, while second-half strikes from Bostjan Cesar and Nejc Pecnik gave Slovenia the win away at San Marino.
Group G: Russia Avoid the Play-Offs
Two goals in four minutes from Oleg Kuzmin and Aleksandr Kokorin against Montenegro was enough to wrap up second place for Russia in Group G.
In Sweden's match against Moldova, Zlatan Ibrahimovic continued his remarkable goalscoring record, per Squawka Football:
Erkan Zengin made sure of the win when he added a second shortly after half-time.
Stoke City's Marko Arnautovic broke the deadlock for group-winners Austria against Liechtenstein, before a three-minute brace from Marc Janko completed a successful campaign for the Austrians, who could be one of the teams to avoid in France.
