49ers Looking at Tate After Bush Injury
Monday, Nov. 2
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network noted Tate will work out for San Francisco on Tuesday, citing a source. Rapoport added that "with Reggie Bush likely out for the season," Tate could end up as the man to fill his spot on the depth chart.
Chiefs Show Interest in Tate
Monday, Oct. 12
According to Adam Teicher of ESPN, the Kansas City Chiefs brought Tate in for a workout in the wake of star running back Jamaal Charles' season-ending ACL injury.
Kansas City already has Charcandrick West and Knile Davis available, so were if it to sign Tate, it would likely be just a move to add depth. West is a shiftier runner in the mold of Charles, making him a more direct replacement for the Pro Bowl back, while Davis is a talented and physical one-cut runner who will see his role increased as well with Charles sidelined.
However, Kansas City has seemed content with its depth at the position, making any signing unlikely barring another injury.
Tate's Role Vital to Success With Next Team
Tate, 27, last played for the Pittsburgh Steelers in last year's playoffs. He also played for the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings before being cut by each team during the regular season. In total, he accumulated 371 rushing yards and four touchdowns in 11 regular-season games last year.
Tate didn't accept the running-back-by-committee situation in Cleveland last year after Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell earned a large workload, creating tension in the locker room and ultimately playing a factor in his release, per a June report by Tom Reed of the Northeast Ohio Media Group. That raises some questions as to whether he would accept an ancillary role.
