Cecil Not Ruling Out World Series Return
Tuesday, Oct. 20
"No doubt in my mind," Cecil said when asked if he could return if Toronto makes the World Series, per Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star. "We’ve got a lot of work to do, but if it comes to that I feel like I will be ready."
Cecil threw a bullpen session and said his calf "felt good" and that there was "nothing out of the ordinary."
Kennedy originally reported Cecil would miss the rest of the season on Oct. 10, so this is a major change as the Blue Jays look to defeat the Kansas City Royals in the American League Championship Series.
What Cecil Means to Toronto Bullpen
Cecil has been arguably the best reliever for a Toronto bullpen that had the 28th-worst ERA (5.08) in September and October, according to ESPN Stats & Info. His earned run on Napoli’s pinch hit was the first he’d allowed since June 21, a span of 31.2 innings over 37 appearances, according to Baseball-Reference.com.
With Cecil out, guys like Mark Lowe, LaTroy Hawkins and Drew Hutchison must continue to carry the load if Toronto hopes to reach the World Series.
