England vs. Estonia: Date, Time, Live Stream for Euro 2016 Qualifier

Michael CummingsOct 9, 2015

England host Estonia in Euro 2016 qualification on Friday, but the game likely won't feel much like an average qualifier. The Three Lions have already sealed a spot at next summer's tournament in France, and manager Roy Hodgson could be set to experiment with his lineup.

With eight of 10 matches played, England sit alone atop Group E with a perfect 24 points. Hodgson's men lead second-placed Switzerland by nine points and still have a chance to go through the qualifying process with a 100 percent record.

The top two teams in all nine groups qualify automatically for Euro 2016, with the best third-placed team joining them. For the remaining four spots in the 24-team field (France have qualified automatically), the remaining eight third-placed teams will contest two-legged playoffs.

While England have already assured themselves of qualification, the Three Lions could still have a say in who else qualifies from Group E. Friday's opponent, Estonia, is currently in fourth place with nine points but can still finish third or even second. Magnus Pehrsson's men sit two points behind Slovenia and five behind Switzerland with two games left.

Team News

With captain and forward Wayne Rooney missing out through injury, defender Gary Cahill is set to wear the armband for England in Friday's match, as per Sam Wallace at The Independent. According to Wallace, a number of senior players, including goalkeeper Joe Hart, will leave the team following Friday's game and return to their clubs.

Rooney's absence will have the greatest effect on the front line, where Harry Kane is set to start at center-forward, as per John Cross at the Daily Mirror. Cross notes that Arsenal's Theo Walcott and Manchester City's Raheem Sterling will line up either side of the Spurs star. Rooney recently broke Bobby Charlton's England scoring record, but Hodgson's side should still have enough firepower to beat Estonia.

Hodgson had plenty of praise for the 22-year-old, who enjoyed a breakout season in 2014-15.

"Harry's waited a long time for his chance, but when he got his chance he scored with his first touch of the ball." Hodgson said, per BBC Sport. "It's now that we have him exclusively to ourselves. We believed in him. He's got a good career ahead of him, so it's nice he'll get an opportunity."

The team's only other injury worry involves Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, who missed training Thursday with a groin problem. The 34-year-old will undergo a fitness test before Hodgson makes a decision on his status.

Prediction

Group E hasn't provided much of a test for England, who have won all eight games by the combined score of 26-3. The toughest tests—home and away to Switzerland—are already passed, and Estonia shouldn't represent much of a problem, even without Rooney in the lineup.

England might struggle for fluidity depending on how much Hodgson experiments, but the Three Lions should still win comfortably.
