Aaron Hernandez to Ask for Dismissal of Double-Murder Charges

Mike ChiariOct 6, 2015

Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is already serving a life sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd, but his lawyers are attempting to get additional murder charges against their client dismissed.

According to the Associated Press (h/t MyFoxBoston.com), Hernandez's attorneys have requested that charges against the former University of Florida standout in the 2012 shooting deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado outside of a Boston nightclub get dropped.

The lawyers have argued there is insufficient evidence to establish probable cause and that evidence was gathered from Hernandez's SUV based on statements made by a man who failed a lie-detector test, per the Associated Press (h/t MyFoxBoston.com).

According to ESPN's Michele Steele, Hernandez was present when his attorneys made the request Tuesday in a Boston courtroom.

This comes on the heels of a judge turning down a request for a new trial in the Lloyd murder case, per the Sun Chronicle. That request was made on the grounds that jurors allegedly improperly discussed Hernandez's case outside of court.

Unless a future appeal is approved, Hernandez will continue to serve life in prison regardless of how the 2012 double-murder case plays out.
