Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid went into the first Madrid derby of the season separated by just one place and two points in the La Liga table. And after Barcelona dropped three points away to Sevilla on Saturday, the match provided an excellent opportunity for both sides.

It was Real who were fastest out of the blocks, as Karim Benzema met Dani Carvajal's right-wing cross with a perfect header to put the away side ahead.
