Sanchez to Receive 5-Year Deal

Sunday, Oct. 4

According to the Mirror's Steve Stammers, the Chilean international is set to receive a new five-year contract with the north London outfit worth £130,000 per week before Christmas.

That would lift him above Mesut Ozil as the club's highest earner, per Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail.

The rumoured figure, according to Stammers, would keep Sanchez at the club beyond 2018, when his current deal is set to expire, with "a senior Arsenal source" saying, "It would be no surprise if there was a new contract offer."

The 26-year-old only joined Arsenal ahead of the 2014-15 campaign, but he has already had a magnificent impact on his new side. In 62 appearances, Sanchez has racked up 29 goals and 15 assists in all competitions and helped the Gunners to a second successive FA Cup win last season.

Tying him down long term is some excellent business by Arsenal, as he is one of the few world-class players available to boss Arsene Wenger, and his presence provides them with an excellent platform to build on going forward.

Further, it will put the club in a much stronger position should he ever attract serious interest from other top clubs or decide to leave, avoiding the kind of lengthy farce Manchester United were forced to endure with David De Gea last summer.
