La Liga Results 2015: Scores and Updated Table After Saturday's Week 6 Matches
Villarreal snatched top spot in La Liga after beating Atletico Madrid 1-0 on a day when both Barcelona and Real Madrid suffered misfortune.
Reigning champions Barcelona had reclaimed top spot in La Liga, but they had to endure a serious injury to club talisman Lionel Messi. Barca's bittersweet day came before previous leaders Real were held at home by a Carlos Kameni-inspired Malaga.
At the bottom, Sevilla climbed off the basement spot after outlasting Rayo Vallecano in a 3-2 thriller. A late winner from Yevhen Konoplyanka lifted last season's UEFA Europa League winners to 14th in the table.

Suarez Steals the Show After Messi's Injury
If there's one team that might be able to survive losing the world's best player, it's Barcelona. Messi went off, but the Catalans still had Luis Suarez.
The mercurial Uruguayan striker found the net twice in a nervy 2-1 win at home over Las Palmas. Both goals let Suarez show off his all-round guile as a finisher.
His first came via an emphatic header after the former Liverpool man rose to meet Sergi Roberto's teasing cross. Suarez then rasped home a thunderous shot after some smart combination play with unusually advanced holding midfield player Sergio Busquets.
WhoScored.com detailed what the strikes mean for Suarez's form in front of goal since he joined Barcelona last summer:
The pressure has now increased on Suarez to be even more prolific, after Squawka News tweeted confirmation of the extent of Messi's knee problem:
The mini Argentinian master went down after attempting a shot on the edge of the box just three minutes into the game. With Messi gone, the fear factor Barca exude is certainly diminished.
As talented as their star-studded squad is, it's still Messi who most commonly makes the difference, particularly in big games. That could prove significant given some of the fixtures Messi may miss.
Among them are the upcoming trip to Sevilla, always a tricky game. There's also November's Clasico, according to ESPN's Dermot Corrigan.
Suarez can carry a team. He did it for both Ajax and Liverpool earlier in his career. But maintaining Barca's status at the top of the European game without Messi is surely his biggest challenge yet.
Madrid Blanked by Kameni
Los Blancos would have taken top spot back off their nemesis had they not run into an inspired Kameni. The Cameroonian stopper was magnificent at the Santiago Bernabeu.
He thwarted Cristiano Ronaldo (a lot), Karim Benzema, Isco and Luka Modric. The more Madrid pressed, the more stubborn the 31-year-old ex-Espanyol glovesman became.
These numbers, per WhoScored.com, perfectly illustrate just how miserly Kameni was:
Madrid found themselves stymied by Malaga's deep defensive line. It forced the hosts into an usually aerial-heavy attacking approach, as noted by OptaJose:
This was a marked departure from Madrid's traditional adherence to quick and intricate, ground-based combination passing. But Los Merengues boss Rafa Benitez insisted Malaga gave his team no choice but to pepper the box with a plethora of crosses, according to Corrigan:
Ultimately, whatever Madrid tried Malaga were too resilient to cave.
Benitez's men squandered the chance to finish the day top of the pile. Meanwhile, Ronaldo's search for a 500th goal in Madrid colours and a club record continues.
Leo Baptistao Haunts Simeone
Karma is often a cruel mistress. Atletico chief Diego Simeone knows the feeling after watching one of his former charges deny his side three vital points.
Instead, it was Villarreal who took the spoils, courtesy of Leo Baptistao. Corrigan was quick to note the irony for a player who enjoyed a brief and tough spell in Spain's capital city under Simeone:
The goal continued a terrific scoring run for the one-time Rayo Vallecano man, as noted by WhoScored.com:
More importantly, Baptistao's effort means manager Marcelino's team is in the unfamiliar confines of first place. That's the Yellow Submarine's reward for matching a club-best start, as OptaJose highlighted:
The fast start has been built on a stingy defence that has surrendered a mere four goals through six matches. Up front, retreads like Baptistao and Roberto Soldado are rediscovering their best form on Marcelino's watch.
Villarreal won't stay in top spot, but Marcelino's men are certainly making La Liga's early stages interesting. Things will get more intriguing as Barca adjust to life without Messi. Meanwhile, Los Blancos have to find their scoring touch.
