Tramel Terry, Former 4-Star Recruit, to Transfer from Georgia: Details, Reaction

Alec NathanSep 23, 2015

Tramel Terry's time at the University of Georgia ended Wednesday when the former 4-star recruit announced his intention to transfer from the SEC powerhouse.

According to DawgNation.com's Seth Emerson, the converted cornerback and heralded high school standout released a statement regarding his future.

"I appreciate the opportunity provided by Georgia,” Terry said, per Emerson. "I have many friends there but believe I’ll have a better chance for playing time somewhere else."

According to 247Sports, Terry was the state of South Carolina's top-ranked recruit in the 2013 class when he committed to Georgia. He was also the 13th-best wide receiver in the country after torching the competition at Goose Creek High School.

However, Terry suffered a torn ACL during an all-star showcase prior to his freshman season with the Bulldogs. The brutal injury sent his stock as a receiver tumbling, and he ultimately decided on a switch to cornerback.

As a redshirt freshman last year, Terry appeared in 10 games and mustered six tackles and an interception. So far this season, he has accumulated two tackles and a forced fumble.

"Playing time is important to every player and I understand the way he feels," head coach Mark Richt said in a statement, per Emerson. "We wish him nothing but success at his next school and will assist any way we can in the process."

Terry has yet to announce where he'll continue his playing career, but a return to receiver could revive his stock since he has a few years of eligibility remaining. And even if he decides to try to build a resume as a cornerback, transferring to a program that isn't already replete with playmakers in the secondary will help raise his profile.
