Former LSU TE Tyler Edwards Dies at Age 26
Former LSU tight end Tyler Edwards, who played for the program from 2008-2012, died Saturday night in Monroe, Louisiana, from an apparent suicide. He was 26.
Police who responded to the scene told the Advocate that Edwards was found at 9:30 p.m. Saturday and died from a self-inflicted gunshot. An autopsy will be done to confirm the cause of death. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the case, according to KNOE 8 News.
Edwards was a local Louisiana product who was considered the 15th-best tight end in his high school class, per 247Sports. He went on to have one career reception for the Tigers, mostly serving as a backup on the LSU roster. Though Edwards was ruled ineligible for his senior season, he had recently re-enrolled with plans of completing his degree.
“If you were in a bad situation, he’d always make it better because he’d always make you laugh,” former teammate Thomas Parsons told the Advocate. “He was just a joy to be around.”
The LSU football program has not released a statement on Edwards' death at this time.
