South Carolina vs. Georgia: Score, Highlights and Twitter Reaction

Joe PantornoSep 19, 2015

For the second consecutive week, the University of Georgia defeated a fellow SEC team with relative ease, beating South Carolina 52-20 on Saturday night.

Georgia quarterback Greyson Lambert made a nice case as to why he is deserving of the starting quarterback position. After starting last week 0-of-7 passing, he set a school record on Saturday by completing 20 consecutive passes.

He also toppled the school mark for completion percentage, hitting 24 of 25 passes (96 percent) on the night for 330 yards and three touchdowns. ESPN Stats & Info takes a look at Lambert's big day:

For Barton Simmons of 247Sports, a consistent Lambert is going to be a game-changer in the SEC:

Georgia kept the offense simple, running plays that allowed Lambert to get the ball out quickly. It gave the Bulldogs a plethora of open receivers, as he hit nine different sets of hands on Saturday night.

His favorite target, though, was Malcolm Mitchell, who caught eight passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.

With those quick routes and releases, that didn't mean Lambert shied away from the tough throws, as Dr. Saturday shows:

When it came to getting the ball in the end zone, though, Lambert looked to his running backs, as Nick Chubb and Sony Michel combined for five touchdowns on the day.

Chubb, who rushed for 159 yards, was showing a powerful brand of running throughout the evening. It was never more evident on Georgia's first touchdown of the game, as ESPN shows (via B/R UGA):

It is the 11th straight game that Chubb has eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark—one off the school record set by Herschel Walker, according to SportsCenter.

Michel, not to be outdone, bruised his way through the South Carolina defense. He scored three touchdowns on the eveningone rushing in the first half and two receiving tallies that came on consecutive offensive drives in the third quarteras he helped put the game away for the Bulldogs.

The Student Section has a look at his first receiving touchdown of the night and how he looked to easily handle the Gamecocks defense:

Georgia had an offensive answer any time South Carolina managed to score, but the one weak spot was special teams, which could not find a way to slow down South Carolina's kick returns.

Shon Carson averaged more than 35 yards per return in the first half, giving South Carolina the solid field position it needed to score 10 points in the final four minutes of the half. What could have been a 23-3 halftime lead turned into a 23-13 scoreline.

But Lambert was unstoppable and padded Georgia's lead further to start the second half. In fact, it took just 1:45 to go 75 yards thanks to Chubb chewing up 44 of them. He set up Lambert for an 11-yard swing pass to put the Bulldogs up 31-13.

An interception from Perry Orth gave Georgia the ball back on the 11-yard line, and Lambert and Chubb hooked up yet again for a similar-looking touchdown, just on the other side of the field, as ESPN via B/R Georgia Bulldogs shows:

Lambert, his two-man wrecking crew in the backfield and a dominant offensive line just wore down South Carolina, as holes along the line of scrimmage blew open for the running game. Chubb's second touchdown of the day with 4:13 left in the third expanded Georgia's advantage to 32.

South Carolina began giving freshman Lorenzo Nunez some looks under center as Orth just couldn't find a way to crack Georgia's defense. The starter could only muster 66 yards through the air on 6-of-17 passing. Nunez did manage to lead a touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, but it was just a matter of too little, too late.

Regardless of what teams in front of it might do, Georgia could well move up a spot or two in the rankings after such a dominant performance against an SEC side. A balanced, dynamic offensive attack that was provided plenty of protection with such a good offensive line makes Georgia a dangerous team moving forward.
