College Football's Most Important Offers of the Week

Six of the commitments on USC’s 2016 commit list are slated to line up on defense for head coach Steve Sarkisian.

However, one position that has yet to be addressed by Sarkisian and his staff is corner.

Last week, the Trojans offered 4-star corner and current Penn State pledge Lavert Hill, which Hill confirmed via Twitter:

The 5’11”, 175-pound Detroit native has been committed to the Nittany Lions since late January, but he’s since been a frequent visitor on the campuses of in-state powers Michigan and Michigan State.

In fact, he was in East Lansing last weekend for the showdown between the Spartans and the Oregon Ducks.

As Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports detailed, Hill’s brother, Delano, plays for the Wolverines—which could help their case in getting the younger Hill to flip his commitment and stay closer to home.

However, with the Trojans jumping into the race, it will be interesting to monitor if they can become a factor with Hill down the stretch.

Sarkisian and his staff already hold a commitment from 4-star Michigan linebacker Daelin Hayes.

Hill, the nation’s No. 10 corner and the No. 123 player overall in the 2016 class, has the type of athleticism to fit into a USC secondary unit already loaded with talent.

FSU offers 5-Star Cali ATH

Earlier this month, 5-star athlete Darnay Holmes mentioned Florida State as one of the programs he was hoping to hear from soon.

Last week, the Seminoles entered the chase for the dynamic two-way California standout by offering him, according to Scout.com’s Greg Biggins:

Holmes has programs such as Ohio State and Stanford among the schools standing out to him currently.

With the ‘Noles now in the picture, Holmes' list of favorites could expand if the dialogue between the two parties leads to a future visit.

Ohio State offers 4-star FL APB

Another talented skill player whom Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and his staff have an eye on is 4-star running back C.J. Cotman.

The Buckeyes join programs such as Boston College, Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville and Miami in offering the 5’11”, 165-pounder.

Cotman rates as the nation’s No. 6 all-purpose running back and the No. 295 player overall in the 2017 class.

Baylor Offers Top 2018 In-State Defender

Considering his background as a former prep football coach in the state of Texas, Baylor head coach Art Briles knows that it’s never too early to build relationships with the top players in the Lone Star State.

Last week, the Bears offered the state’s top sophomore prospect in defensive end Max Wright, per Wright's Twitter account:

Baylor joined fellow in-state programs Houston, TCU and Texas A&M in tendering the 6’4”, 235-pounder.

While Wright has a long way to go until he ends up on a college campus, the Bears are hoping the early offer helps them build a strong foundation with his recruitment moving forward.

Best of the Rest

  • Florida State offered 5-star athlete Mecole Hardman Jr.
