EPL Table: 2015 Premier League Standings After Sunday's Week 5 Matches

Tom SunderlandSep 13, 2015

Manchester City remain unmoved at the summit of the Premier League table, but the rest of the English top flight underwent major change as Week 5 of the 2015-16 season produced a string of shock results.

Sunday saw Leicester City struck three times in the second half of their clash with Aston Villa to steal all three points. And Tottenham Hotspur finally got their campaign up and running thanks to a 1-0 victory at Sunderland.

The Foxes move into second place and now sit just a point ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal in third and fourth, respectively, after fighting back to maintain their unbeaten start to the new term.

Tame Tottenham Notch First Win

An 82nd-minute winner courtesy of midfield playmaker Ryan Mason gave Tottenham their first win of the season on Sunday, a result many Spurs fans will consider as long overdue.

Unfortunately for Mason, a brush with Sunderland No. 1 Costel Pantilimon during that play meant the England international had to be stretchered off, per the Guardian's Louise Taylor, ending his day in bittersweet fashion.

Still, Mauricio Pochettino will be overjoyed to see his side finally get a victory on the board and move just below mid-table in the Premier League standings, now sitting on six points.

FourFourTwo's James Maw touched on the brighter side of Spurs' recent run of results, having at least avoided defeat in their last four games now since falling to Manchester United in Week 1:

That being said, the north Londoners are hardly out of the woods yet following a close outing against the Black Cats, who have undoubtedly been one of the division's worst teams thus far, yet to win a game.

It's also a growing concern that the likes of Mason need to pitch in with match-saving goals, as last season's star man Harry Kane is still to open his account for the 2015-16 season.

Debutant Dyer Prolongs Ranieri's Unbeaten Run

Leicester City's defiant start to the campaign continued on Sunday as they hit back from a two-goal deficit to seal a 3-2 win against Aston Villa thanks to goals from Ritchie De Laet, Jamie Vardy and Nathan Dyer.

The prodigal Jack Grealish rose to fizz home the only goal of the first period just prior to half-time, which OptaJoe confirmed as something of a record in Villa's books:

That was before Carles Gil rasped in a second from similar range in the 63rd minute, and Leicester's De Laet saw a contentious header awarded despite looking as though it may not have gone over the line.

A courageous second-half performance came to a climax when Vardy struck an equaliser in the 82nd minute before Dyer put his body on the line to send in an 89th-minute winner for the hosts.

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker hailed his former club as one to never be underestimated:

For all the fine work Leicester have already committed so far this season, manager Claudio Ranieri may well see this as their finest win of the season yet, showing superb spirit to surmount the two-goal deficit.

Only time will tell if the current aspirations of a European-place finish prove futile, but Ranieri is marshalling the east Midlands outfit through a wonderful patch of form, one which they're sure to revel in.
