Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend

Ryan BaileySep 6, 2015

The international break may have put the kibosh on top-flight domestic entertainment in Europe over the weekend, but there were still plenty of brilliant goals to be found around the world.

Our latest weekend golazo ranking features some wonderful efforts from Euro 2016 qualification, some showboating from Argentina, a world-class strike from women's soccer in the USA and a few pleasant examples of friendly fire.

Take a look at the ranking and be sure to leave a comment about your favourite.

9. Mathieu Valbuena (France) vs. Portugal

1 of 9

Portugal's Euro 2016 qualifying group features one less team than the other groups, so they welcomed tournament hosts France to Lisbon for a friendly on Friday.

The game's only goal came in the 85th minute, when new Lyon recruit Mathieu Valbuena curled in a brilliant free-kick

8. Michael Mifsud (Malta) vs. Azerbaijan

2 of 9

Neither Malta nor Azerbaijan will be going to France next summer for Euro 2016, but their Group H game on Sunday did produce an excellent goal.

In the 55th minute, Micheal Mifsud levelled it up for Malta by teeing the ball up for himself and blasting it past the keeper.

7. Edgar Davids (Laureus All Stars) vs. Real Madrid Legends

3 of 9

Edgar Davids—who was last spotted as a player/manager at Barnet—proved he's still got it during a charity game on Saturday.

Representing a veterans XI against a Real Madrid XI at AZ Alkmaar's AFAS Stadion, the Dutchman scored two long-range goals, one of which was a sensational first-time hit with the outside of his boot.

Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles—on loan with Leicester this season—might be a name to look out for in the future.

On Friday evening, the 18-year-old scored the third goal in England U19's 3-2 win over Germany with a stunning right-footed strike from the edge of the area.

5. Lucas Alario (River Plate) vs. Nueva Chicago

5 of 9

Lucas Alario took the match ball home during River Plate's 4-1 victory at Chicago on Sunday after bagging a hat-trick in the Argentine Primera Division tie.

The 22-year-old's first goal of the afternoon was a close-range volley that was made possible by skilfully flicking the ball over a defender who was made to look rather silly.

4. Do Dong-Hyun (East Bengal) vs. Mohun Bagan

6 of 9

Those who do not follow India's fourth-tier Calcutta Premier Division A may not know East Bengal won their derby match with Mohun Bagan 4-1 on Sunday.

East Bengal's Do Dong-Hyun scored two incredible free-kicks in the victory, both of which easily earn a place on this ranking.

The South Korean's first goal, in the second minute of the game, was probably the better of the two.

3. Jessica Fishlock (Washington Spirit) vs. Seattle Reign

7 of 9

On Saturday, the Washington Spirit lost their NWSL match against a Seattle Reign side featuring Hope Solo and Megan Rapinoe by a 2-1 scoreline.

The Spirit's goal, however, was a volley to remember from Welsh midfielder Jessica Fishlock.

Pick that one out!

2. Hector Herrera (Mexico) vs. Trinidad & Tobago

8 of 9

Mexico faced Trinidad & Tobago on Friday night in Utah and were losing 3-2 as the clock approached full time.

In the 85th minute, however, El Tri earned a draw when Porto midfielder Hector Herrera curled in a worldie with his first touch from a corner.

1. Ralekoti Mokhahlane (Lesotho) vs. Algeria

9 of 9

Lesotho were 1-0 down to Algeria in their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday when Ralekoti Mokhahlane produced a moment of pure brilliance.

The 29-year-old midfielder received the ball with his back to goal around 20 yards out and then proceeded to tee himself up for a dazzling volley.

Algeria managed to score twice in the final five minutes to earn a 3-1 victory, but Lesotho can certainly take consolation from the manner of their goal.
