UK Back Pages: Paul Merson Hammers Arsene Wenger over Danny Welbeck Injury

Arsenal had no shortage of criticism after they were the only team in Europe's five major leagues to not sign an outfield player during the transfer window. 

When it was announced on Thursday that Danny Welbeck would go under the knife for a knee surgery that will put him out of Arsenal action for several months, there was even more fury directed to north London as they failed to bring in forward reinforcements. 

Chief among the critics was former Gunner Paul Merson, who was highly critical of Arsene Wenger and Arsenal for not addressing their problems in the open market. 

The fallout along with Gareth Bale being celebrated for his Wales winner in their Euro qualifier are the talk of the tabloids.
