Tottenham Transfer News: Latest on Saido Berahino and Top Spurs Rumours
West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino seems to be nearing a transfer away from the Hawthorns, with Tottenham Hotspur set to bid a reported £20 million for the youngster.
Berahino was left out of the squad for the team's clash with Chelsea on Sunday, and according to John Cross of the Daily Mirror, he has been the subject of a rebuffed bid of £15 million from Spurs. However, the Londoners will apparently come back with a bolstered package that could surpass the £20 million mark.
As noted in Cross' piece, West Brom boss Tony Pulis admitted after Sunday’s game that he was far from happy about how this saga has gone:

"Saido is a great lad. It happens where it can be disruptive, and it has been disruptive. I had a good chat with him and he's fine, no problems, but it's the transfer window.
Will it go ahead? You'll have to wait and see. Seven days [until the window closes]. I don't think that's relevant. It's just the kid. He's a young lad who needs to be protected.
There's loads of stuff going on in his mind and there are loads of clubs, not one but 15, saying things and doing things. I'm not talking any more about it…
"

Spurs could do with Berahino's attacking quality. At this juncture, the out-of-favour Emmanuel Adebayor is the only back-up to star centre-forward Harry Kane, and Tottenham have looked a little short of attacking ideas in the first three games of the campaign as a result.
The West Brom man would bring some much-needed competition in a lot of positions. While he's at his best through the middle, Berahino can also operate as a second striker or in wide areas. His 14 Premier League goals in 2014-15 are also indicative of a young man who knows where the back of the net is, per WhoScored.com.

But as we can see here, courtesy of OptaJoe, for the Baggies, Berahino will be a difficult player to replace:
Pulis has drafted in Salomon Rondon, who will give this West Brom team a physical edge at the point of attack. On the face of it, the Venezuelan is a more natural fit for the direct football the West Brom boss loves his teams to play.

Berahino would be a useful player under Pulis, but the chance to join Spurs is a prospect that will surely appeal to the 22-year-old. According to Jack Pitt-Brooke of the Independent, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will alter his tactics to fit Berahino into his XI:
Aside from anger, there was a tinge of resignation in Pulis' words while discussing Berahino's future, and a move to Tottenham is beginning to look increasingly inevitable. But West Brom fans can be content that the club have already conducted some excellent business so far in the transfer window and will be handsomely compensated for his sale.
Spurs will be getting one of the most exciting young English players around and the kind of forward who should thrive alongside a better player. If Berahino can handle the pressures that accompany a £20 million price tag, then everything is in place for him to be a star at White Hart Lane.
