The loss exposed Mensah and Miami's weaknesses, as the Hurricanes were held out of the end zone in the first half and suffered their first loss of the season after not facing a ranked opponent all year.

Carr's draft stock certainly improved after the win, as he showcased his skills throughout the game and helped the Fighting Irish hand Miami its first loss of the season.

The Fighting Irish took a 17-3 lead into halftime, behind two touchdowns and 205 yards on a 69 percent passing rate from Carr, finding Jordan Faison and Micah Gilbert for touchdown passes.

Mensah could not find the endzone before the half as he was held to just 49 passing yards on 6-of-12 completions.

Despite a second-half surge from Miami, which outscored Notre Dame 21-14 after halftime, the Fighting Irish held on for the seven-point win to upset the Hurricanes and prove they belong among the nation's best.

Miami's Mensah has been red-hot this season, throwing for 2,425 yards, ranking in the top 15 in college football, with 25 touchdowns and just one interception. Both marks are tied for second nationally, as Mensah led the Hurricanes to a No. 1 ranking at 8-0 while pacing the nation with an 80.7 percent completion rate heading into their matchup against Notre Dame.

At 6-foot-3, Mensah is listed as the No. 4 quarterback projected to be selected, according to ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. With 35 college starts under his belt and not turning 22 until January, his resume and production are hard to ignore.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame's Carr landed at No. 8 in Kiper Jr. 's rankings. The junior quarterback entered Saturday's matchup with 1,849 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and just one interception as well.

Standing at 6-foot-2, Carr helped lead the No. 11 Fighting Irish to a 7-1 record entering Saturday while boosting his draft stock with his poise and decision-making under center. He has taken just two sacks all season.

Miami will host the Duke Blue Devils next Saturday, while Notre Dame will welcome the Boston College Eagles later that day.
